Coffee..

I think cocaine would be a better fuel source. Cars running on crack would be quite funny.

naww, having to stop and refuel every 5 minutes would be fucked....

Not just for fueling humans anymore.
Coffee Beans As The Next Great Auto Fuel? | Consumer Energy Report
:D
Sounds interesting, although I don't know if I'd want the whole city smelling like coffee.

the waste reclamation angle is a good one, that's the first one I've seen that was after the oil specifically. Any plant will work, the more cellulose content per pound the better. Corn, the most talked about is by far the worst plant to use, cost of raising the corn is in the 3-4 hundred dollar/per acre range depending on the area that you live, that makes it the most costly. The best plant found so far is actually a grassy weed, switchgrass. It yields the most per pound with little or no cost to produce the plant. The biggest problem w/ any bio- fuel is the cost to produce it, it is still alot higher than petroleum. So, it probably won't get into a mainstream useage anytime soon.
I think that we'll see compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative before any of the others. The only drawback to it last I heard was the time it took to re-fuel. Texas DOT has tried to use it in the past, a friend if mine who works for them had one, and one tank would carry him 200 miles, hen he had to re-fuel and the re-fueling took overnight. It made the whole thing usless to a person who drives 4-5 hundred miles a day across 2 counties. They may have a new faster system now, that's been a couple of years ago when they tried it.

Drilling offshore and in ANWAR will be the answer in the short run.

It would probably steal my wallet and take off on me though.

..
Drilling offshore still doesn't help the environmental issue. :D
