coca-cola c2- why?

im sure everyone has heard of this new coke with 1/5 carbs. now i can see why they are marketing this since everyone is on a low carb craze. but wouldnt it be better for them to market diet coke as no carbs and make a better profit?

Hmm.. makes little sense..

Maybe this new Coke is aspartame-free? I know some people low-carbing avoid the diet coke for that reason..

C2 has 1/2 the sugar/carbs as regular soda, not 1/5. Diet Coke is heinous, but C2 will still taste like regular Coke...........allegedly.

same with regular diet coke. it tastes good. diet pepsi is awful

I agree it's supremely dumb, but at least it makes enough of a difference to be calorically significant

70 cals instead of 140

unlike these 'lo carb' beers where they cut the carbs (50%!!) from 4g to 2g (lol) and the difference is only about 8 calories between that and regular light beer. now that's a scam.

It makes people think they are doing something healthier. I was in the store this weekend and they had all the other coke products on sale, except the c2, and people were buying it up.

regular coke has way too much sugar...i've tried c2 and it's pretty damn good.

i guess coke realized they can basically attain the same taste with half the sugar. You really don't need 40 grams of sugar to make it taste the way it does. good for them...

i'm sure they realized this long ago but were waiting to cash in on it (i.e. low carb crave)

That adds up for someone like me who can easily go thru 3 sodas a day. I can drink 6 now!

agreed, but God bless 'em for making money off consumer stupidity without really hurting anything.

I saw this C2 at the store over the weekend in huge truck loads. My friend bought herself one and I took a sip. The first thing that came to my mind was that it tasted like a "Hollow" Coke. It was somewhere between normal Coke and Diet Coke.

Personally I like Pepsi, so to me all Coke tastes like shit with Diet Coke with Lime being the worst drink ever made the whole fucking universe.

Side note: A few months ago I went to a concert that Coke was sponsoring and had just come out with Diet Coke with Lime and they were handing them out like crazy for free. Well I took one drink and almost vomited in my mouth. And apparently I wasn't the only one that felt that way, the concert grounds were virtually filled with Lime Coke bottles that were still full!

Did you pick 'em up for a test sip?

Oh god no! I had my own that I quickly re-capped and placed among the other thousands of rejected bottles.

I have had it and I think it's pretty good. Really, what's so stupid about half the calories? I thought of this concept years ago. The marketplace can sort things out now as to if the demand is strong for this.

The New Coke "fiasco" gave them a chance to switch from cane sugar to corn sweetener, is how I heard it. If they'd tried to just slip it into the market, people would have noticed the change. So they lost a few million, told people they were going back to the original formula, and saved a few billion over the next decade.
