So I'm driving to work this morning..theres this cop standing in the middle of the road..he signals me to pull over. He takes my license, registration....

This asshole has nothing better to do than hand out tickets for not wearing a seatbelt.

When he comes back to the car he tells me he really doesn't want to give me the ticket but he is supporting the program "CLICK IT OR TICKET" then tells me he will be at the same spot tomorrow & he wants to see me wearing a seatbelt & says he just wants me to be safe.

Get the hell out of here..if that was the case give me a warning not a friggen ticket!

They have been doing this all over. Ive cruised through at least 3 of those seat belt enforcement areas in the last 5 days. Um, i dont think it's anything personal LOL

Not saying that the cop wasn't being a dick (he so could have given you a warning) but you regularly drive without wearing your seat belt?

Most states are doing this campaign, and I don't think that they are allowed to give warning tickets.

Driving without a seatbelt is just another way of generating revenue for the state and local governments. Initially they couldn't stop you just for that, but in the ever encroaching method of laws, now they can. Now they can use it as a means of looking for other things as well. They have some probable cause since you didn't have on your seat belt you disgusting criminal!

Its your own fault .. why werent you wearing your seatbelt? :)

I was in a car accident when I was pregnant with my 2nd (though it was real early and didn't know it until later that week). Some asshole cut me off and I hit him head on doing like 60. I near totalled the car while ending up on the curb almost in the window of some appliance store. Thank goodness no one was standing there waiting to cross the street.

Had I not been wearing my seat belt there is no doubt that I would have flown through the windshield. I walked away with some really awful bruises and my now ten year old child.

Call me grandma, but wearing a seatbelt works for me.

It's still a secondary offense in SC. They tried to make it a law where they could pull you over for not wearing a seatbelt, but it failed.

Yup and it's been the death of others... Anecdotal at best.

I remember when they were trying to pass seat belt laws. It was supposed to significantly lower insurance rates. Oooops. That didn't do it either, insurance rates didn't decrease one bit. Of course to additionally help convince people that it was good, they would only cite you if you were already stopped for something else. But no, that didn't generate any additional revenue either. Oh, and then the HUGE deal about how speed kills and we HAVE to keep our speeds on the freeways at 55MPH. *yawn* Oh, that was just a bunch of hooey too.

Seat belt laws are purely revenue generation laws.

Seriously dont bitch about it.. YOU BROKE THE LAW!!

You got a ticket SO WHAT! I have like 7 speeding tickets. I dont complain becuase I know I BROKE THE LAW.

Click it or Ticket started right here in washington. Now all you losers get to join us!
There was alot of complainin when the helmet law got passed. Whiners.
I cant believe I'm on the same side of an arguement as Werd. Dammit

Don't worry, when they are convinced of how much revenue they're missing out on, they'll enact it anyway. Not to mention that when the law enforcement want extra tools to pull you over "just because" they'll enact it also.

Imagine how many laws you're breaking every day and don't know it.. I mean they create 150,000 new laws a year. What society needs that many laws yearly? And we all know the inherent evils of j-walking! The downfall of civilized society rests on stopping all j-walking!

There are two possible routes to get to my house to and from work and there are spot checks in the very same places on the same days so you're going to hit one or the other.

The only problem is if your a legal citizen they'll send you jail for not having a current registration or insurance - if you're an illegal they'll just pretend they never saw you because "INS doesn't want them" local town cop.

Eh, it's probably better to wear your belt anyway.

You go to jail for not having current registration or insurance? *blink* Lordy, how profoundly stupid that is.

I don't have statistical evidence to back my claims, tis true. I wonder why the hubbub though to strap your kids in then if seatbelts don't do any good? Why would I go through all the hassle and expense to purchase all the freaking car seats (that they outgrow ever few years until they are big enough use regular seatbelts) if they didn't do any good?

I remember reading that organ donors of infants and small children plummetted once it became law to strap your kids in. Maybe it was just numbers that were skewed to promote the industry of kids' carseats sales. Maybe not.

All I know is that my life and the life of one of my children was saved by a seatbelt which took no effort for me to put on. Had I not, maybe I would still be here to but I am pretty sure that my ten year old would not be.

No offense, but it seems kind of silly bitching about getting a ticket for something that doesn't cause any inconvenience and could end up actually saving your life. I have heard many stories of peoples' lives being saved, but haven't really heard of any where it killed a person to have one on. Again, I could totally be wrong.

I wear my seatbelt ALWAYS and my kids do as well and anyone who is a passanger in my car. If they opt not to, they don't get in. It's all very simple really.

I've worn seatbelts since 1972ish, and have always worn a helmet when riding a motorcycle even if it wasn't required. It's a personal preference.

When they just cited the driver I didn't allow anyone in who didn't have a seat belt on. After they decided to cite any licensed driver who didn't have a belt on it didn't matter to me one way or another. I wore mine, it was their choice as to whether they should wear theirs.

When I lived in AZ and they were trying to pass a seat belt law, they didn't have any statistics to back them up outside of what the insurance companies had. Of course, it was supposed to lower our car insurance because they laid out billions each year to accidents that could be saved if everyone wore a seat belt. Not so astonishingly the insurance costs didn't decline.

Having kids buckled in is a good thing as is having infants in car seats. It's even better for those who sell car seats to have that legislated.

There are a LOT of things that could save your life that we don't need a law for. As an example you are safer NOT driving a car at all. And statistically you're better off parking your car 1 - 2 miles from home and getting there a different way since that is where most of these smaller accidents come from.

The drop in organ donors is as spurious as anything related to those statistics. Why can we suddenly go faster than 55? In some cases you can go 75, which basically means they're driving 90+. They also made a huge hubbub about HAVING to drive 55. It was the LAW. Ooops, stupid law, now we can actually go faster. Gee, I wonder why I have this distrust of laws helping and being good for us. I guess it depends on whose pile of horseshit you're willing to sniff.

The new enforcement of seat belt laws isn't because suddenly we're having more fatal accidents or anything. It simply generates revenue. Which is why they were passed to begin with.

They were doing this in my town too a few days ago. I was about to drive by this cop standing on the side of the road, and when I saw "seat belt enforcement area" signed nearby, I quickly grabbed my seatbelt and pulled it across my chest, and smiled as I drove by. He musta fell for it. :)

to me- wearing a seatbelt
is much like making a guy wearing a condom...

After being in 2 car accidents that weren't my fault I've learned to wear a seatbelt.

If I were a chick and some cop pulled me over I'd try to get out of it by blowing him. No big deal.

They are insane here - in the boonies.

I can't make this stuff up - plus my Godson's father in the Lieutenant - so dirt is priceless.

I totally agree...there always finding ways to hit us up...its bullshit!

You know its funny..., I have cruised past the police on the parkway & turpike going 80, 90mph & they just look at me and do nothing...I drive 10mph down the road, they see me with no seatbelt & I get a ticket, theres something wrong with this picture.

I'm tired of hearing that "SEATBELTS SAVE LIVES" I can walk across the street tomorrow and get hit by a car.
It should be up to me if I want to wear one.

Can't say that I disagree.
