Clean/Snatch Pull carryover

I have a question for guys experienced in th Olympic lifts. I was always taught that you only pull as high as you need to in order to drop underneath the bar when you clean and snatch. I can clean pull a lot more than I clean, and I can snatch pull a lot more than I snatch.

My question is does my dropping technique need work?

One more question. On my clean pulls and snatch pulls I never use a classic high pull form, meaning I neevr pull with my arms, because I was taught not to pull with the arms with the O-Lifts in college, just bend the elbows and let the bar's momentum carry it up as high as I need to drop under it. I was wondering if on your pulls you use your arms and also how high you pull the weight. Do you just try to get it sky high, or do you only pull it however high you need it to drop under the bar when doing the full version of the lift?

You should be able to pull more than you can do the full lifts. Racking the weight increases the difficulty, and you could infact pull the same weights you use in a deadlift, but then the form and speed doesn't look so good :)

Never use the arms, it builds bad habits, and will cause a slower dip and racking of the bar.
You can do high pulls, where the bar floats up to thesternum or higher. Low pulls where heavier weights cause the bar to only reach the stomach area, and where a normal full clean would reach up to. Or stiff armed pulls, where the arms never bend.

depends, some people like Vanev of Bulgaria, pulls t as high as he can in every lift, while othes only only pull it as high as they need to. But if your training for power, explode as hard as you can always. But in powercleans you don't want the bar to crash back on you though - my prolem :)
