I do speed bench at the local University Gym on Thursday's with Cheese and we have been seeing an old buddy of ours in there. We used to spot him on bench press till I finally refused. I got tired of having to use straps and a belt to spot him on the bench press...

I never used to see him squat but one day he decided to do deadlifts while I was taking the plates off the bar. He shook and shook as he barely got 315...lol. He swears that he can bench 405 too...(lolololololololololololololololololololol....... lololololololol).

Tonight, as usual, I had my video camera in my bag. He walked in the door and ran to the leg press machine thingy. It wasn't like a real leg press but kinda similar to a horizontal leg press...but not. Anyway...it is a piece of crap anyway...and he was doing partial ROM on it.

When he moved to doing squats on the Smith Machine...I just had to break out the "hidden camera". :) This is him with 315 on the bar...you should have seen his set with 365...hahahaha

So sad, so sad. There used to be a guy in my gym who would do squats on the smith machine, but, before he did his set, he would pace around all angry talking to himself, then he would run up to the smith machine, grab the bar and start shaking the machine and rattling it and grunting, then finally, he would duck under the bar, yell, and start doing tiny little partial reps. So sad.... so sad....

i went to google, and typed in the only lyrics i could hear from the video. I typed "i'd never hurt anyone" then i typed lyrics, and breaking benjamin came up

bout time i got to see a video of our old buddy:D
for him, that is a long rom, up to 6- inches from 3 inches the last time i saw him squat:p
u need to post a bench video of him for sure, it would take the cake. i can see the protund is extending yearly:)

LOL... thats hilarious.... I wonder what he can squat properly without the smyth...
There are these two 150 lb lacrosse players at my gym who are probably about 16... they have even less ROM... I think Im going to have to start playin a little candid camera action soon... could be fun :)

Lol. I see so much of that. Almost every day I am in the gym someone is doing something ridiculous. I thought his lower back was gonna' snap on his way up. If you call it a way up. He didn't even go down yet. After I downloaded it and opened it, the file said;

The funny thing is, is that SOOOOOOOO many people in the gym THINK that is a deep squat.

the other day i was spotting some guy on flat dumbbell bench, he was using 80's or something, not to heavy, but this guy was tiny. after the 2nd rep, he couldn't get them 2 inched off his chest without help, but he continued to go for more reps. since i didn't know this guy, i didn't want to be a prick and not help him lift em up, but after the 4th rep i almost bust a hernia trying to lift em, so i said hey bud, there all yours, i'm done, he's like what? huh? shit man, yeah whatever thanks.


i just had to laugh it off!

when I went to the gym last night, I saw only 3 people doing lower body. 2 of them were doing free bar squats exactly like this guy, but with like 150-170 pounds. they bend the knees a *tiny* bit, then bend over a little (?) and then stand up. Who taught them to do squats that way?
 
over the summer, i lifted at the local gym. i saw 1 guy the whole couple months do squats, and he actually did them every week. can't say his form was 'perfect', but, better than seeing no squats.

my day is full of those jokers.

unfortunately no one wants to hear that they should go lower, or should stretch in order to go lower or just plain work on the strength to go lower. they like to let the ego run their workout...and thus the ego hinder their gains.

ah well. c'est la vie.

So I do smith squats.

I basically try to drop my ass to the floor on each rep, but other then that I look like the guy in the video.. I don't use a towel or pad on the bar though.

What exactly is this guy doing wrong besides only doing about half a rep?
 
I see so many people squat like this. In fact, I've only seen one person NOT squat like this. My old gym in socal was full of guys doing half squats. They'd load 3 plates on the bar, drop 4 inches and come back up.

He is only doing 1/2 of a rep...at best...with a belt...AND went heavier than that after that set.

I'm kinda scared I see that type of crap at my gym all the time, and people thjink it is okay..... Well I just hope the ER can manage the trauma this guy is inflicting on himself....
 
tom platz said half squats build power and strenght..i never do them though, i used to do parallel squats. But now i go to the pocket. for that guys weight, he should be doin 585 like butter :D
