Hey all,
Recently added CLA (conjugated linolic acid) and well it seems to improve weight loss and muscle production its pretty crazy and dont know how it works but the more grams you take the more effective it works. Dont know what I could stack with this but if you have any ideas let me know. Thanks and feel free to add or ask questions!!

How many grams are you taking? I just started taking this too, but I'm only taking the recommended dosage on the bottle (200mg, 3 times a day with food).

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and obesity.

BACKGROUND: The term conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) refers to several positional and geometric conjugated dienoic isomers of linoleic acid (LA), of which the trans-10,cis-12 isomer has been reported to reduce adiposity and increase lean mass in mice and other animals when included at <or=1% of the diet. However, most dietary CLA in humans is obtained from dairy products, accounting for the cis-9,trans-11 CLA isomer, also known as rumenic acid, for more than 90% of the total CLA intake. Commercial CLA preparations industrially produced, containing trans-10,cis-12 and cis-9,trans-11 CLA isomers in diverse proportions, are attracting consumers' interest because of the purported body fat-lowering effects of CLA, coupled to the perception of a 'natural' compound devoid of harmful effects. Nevertheless, despite numerous studies on CLA effects on body composition for nearly a decade, the mechanisms by which CLA isomers elicit their effects remain largely unknown. The purpose of this paper is to provide an updated review of the studies performed on animals and humans, as well as to describe the potential mechanisms involved in CLA effects on body weight and composition and metabolism. METHOD: Literature review. RESULTS: Experiments in humans have not been able to show a significant effect on body weight, body composition or weight regain related to either of the CLA isomers. In fact, some studies suggest a tendency towards a decrease in body fat mass and an increase in body lean mass, while some others raise concern about the possibility of deleterious effects of trans-10,cis-12 CLA on lipid profile, glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity. CONCLUSIONS: Evidence regarding effectiveness of CLA in humans is not concluding.

In short, stop tossing your money away, stop falling for muscle magazine ads.

I take 6grams a day thats 3 pills more than the regular dose. I have heard people recommened 4 pills a day the more you take with activity etc over time you will loos the jiggly. Helps burn while you sleep to. I would not recommend anything I do though as you should check with your doc.

I used to take CLA, but then realized that there really isnt too much too it and not enough to back it up. Im sure it wont hurt you in the long run but its extra pills I dont have to take. Ill stick with my ECA or Lipoflame and a well planned meal plan to help burn off the extra pounds :-)

Multi's, Flax seed, ECA, are the only pills Im popping right now, once in a while some Creatine CEE.

Id suggest saving some money, but if you feel its working then thats all that really matters! Just get your diet and training on point and it wont matter if its CLA or your routine, the results at the end are what matters.

if he feels its working for him, then its an expensive placebo effect. eating pocket link would have the same benefit.

Very true, but some people need the thought that something is working for them and if you cut it out they may lose motivation. Weak minded of them but still thats how some people are. Really reading BFFM's first chapter should teach alot of these guys how to work past the mental part of training and eating right.

For every "research" article you find that states a supplement is junk there is another one to respond and say its a good supplement. Just my 2 cents, this is only one article posted if you wanted you could find info where it say CLA is good to take.

If by good to take you mean showing no signs that it's BAD for you then you're right, but if you mean good to take as in a study finds it to be an amazing fat loss supplement, no you will not find one that states anything like that.

Note this part of the study I pasted above "The purpose of this paper is to provide an updated review of the studies performed on animals and humans, as well as to describe the potential mechanisms involved in CLA effects on body weight and composition and metabolism"

So they are giving you an all in all rundown on CLA's benefit in fat loss in humans to which they have found not much of any. One of the newest showed "After adjustment to the median dose of 3.2 g CLA/d, CLA was effective and produced a reduction in fat mass for the CLA group alone (0.05 +/- 0.05 kg/wk; P<0.001) and for the CLA group compared with placebo (0.09 +/- 0.08 kg/wk; P<0.001) CONCLUSION: Given at a dose of 3.2 g/d, CLA produces a modest loss in body fat in humans.
"

That is about 1/5 lb of fatloss per week, which is something under 90 grams of fat. on a larger person that means nothing , its cheaper to just not eat 90 extra grams of fat, and the study doesnt detail the efects on lean and obese people tis a ballpark range so who knows, you could see huge diminishing returns as you get leaner.
