Chest problem.... Unfixable?

I have been lifting seriously and eating properly for the past 8 months after coming out of a serious eating disorder.

Anyhow, I have made fantastic gains in these 8 months but these gains have given me an asthetic problem. Now that I have some mass on my chest I can see that one of my pecs is a completely different shape to the other.

My left pec has a full "square" shape. It goes from the bottom of my neck down to my sternum with a straight line in the middle. My right pec however goes in a straight line down but about half way is goes diagonally inward.

Here are a couple of pics to show you what I mean....

This is a "normal chest"

and this is how mine looks

There seem to be no muscle fibres in this gap and I can feel my sternum (bone) there.

When I first noticed this I hoped that as I added mass to my chest it would fill out in this area. However it just become more noticable as my chest got bigger.

I understand that this is genetics, And in all likelyhood there is nothing I can do about this. I will just have to accept that there is no way to "fill" this gap.

However I wondered if you guys have any ideas on how I could minimise the irregularity and make it more asthetically appealing?

Has anyone had similar issues and gotten around it in some way? Or did it just dissapear or look better when you added a lot more mass?

I wonder if perhaps there are fibres there but they are not getting recruited in some way, maybe they will begin to grow as my chest gets bigger still. I understand that there is no such thing as an "inner chest" so should I just learn to live with it?

Any advice you could give me would be fantastic.

Thanks guys!

Pectoral fibers stretch laterally accross the chest and an entire fiber is activated all at once so no partial recruitment. Basically your genetics determine where your fibers attach to the sternum area and there's nothing you can do about it. A lot of people want a more pronounced groove between their pecs - all they can do is grow the muscles and drop body fat (although there are many here who will suggest "inner pec" exercise routines that are absolute bullshit and in contradiction to proven material covered in Anatomy and Physiology 101). Unfortunately, you are trying to hide something so the answer is the opposite, loose muscle and gain bodyfat. Not exactly what a BBer wants to hear. Everybody has flaws - if this is the worst of them, you are doing well.

Thanks madcow.

My own research on the matter had lead me to the same conclusions. I understand that there is nothing I can do to work my "inner chest" more since there is no such thing. I'm just wondering if anyone else has a similar problem and could post their experiences as they got bigger.

I am hoping that as my chest grows further it will be less noticable due to the fact that the whole chest area will be bigger so the "gap" area will appear smaller in comparison if that makes any sense.

It's a shame because aside from these I seem to have very good genetics. I do alot of modelling and in time was hoping to move into fitness modelling once my physique was up to it. (I'm desperate to stop working in the fashion/catwalk side of things) I'm just hoping this doesn't hinder me in any way.

Thanks.

As a rule the bigger and leaner you are the more noticable it will be because the size and definition accentuates this. That said, as a model I'm sure you know of ways to minimize the obviousness of certain flaws whether that be through angles, maybe some type of cream or makeup to better blend the shading depending upon the light conditions you'll be working under.

One thing I can say with near absolute certainty, we often preceive our own flaws as far more pronounced than they actually are. That's not an area that a lot of people's eyes are drawn to. A powerful upper chest/shoulder girdle draws the eyes and good abdominals draw the eyes. This leaves the middle area where your issue is glossed over for the most part unless there is something really severe there and I'm under the impression there's not (do people stare at it when your at the beach or little kids ask you what happened?). Obviously someone you spend a ton of time with, a la spouse, may notice but that's not really the nature of your work.

Failing that, you could always break out Blue Steel or Magnum to the vintage Right Said Fred song "I'm too Sexy" which generally just blows everyone away. - -couldn't resist :)

i wouldnt fret over it like madcow said..just keep building a bigger stronger/thicker chest and i dont believe that you can target the different areas of the chest..i will say that for me inclines led to better pec mass than flat bench

Thank you very much guys.

Working in the fashion/music industry unfortunately teaches you to be incredibly self critical of your own appearance. And can enourage one to make a far bigger deal out of slight imperfections than is healthy.

You're right I'll try not to fret over it and continue to train to the best of my ability, eat correctly and build a thicker chest.

Thank you for your encouragement.
