aye. this is how it should be, even before considering the merits of belief (which are there).
but why do so many find their believes only once they have hit their lifetime "low" or "bottom?" People seem to always turn to it in the lowest hour.

There have been definitely times where I wished there was something bigger or better out there, someone to call out to for help... but I've never wanted it enough to trick myself into buying into one of the many well crafted religions that exist in the world today.

The key phrase is "Worth living right now" when trouble comes and sometimes it comes on like a hurricane, then it may not be worth living for the unbelievers. As the saying goes, "There are no athiests in the foxholes."

I respect her right to choose her own beliefs. But I can't say that I actually respect the theology and system behind them. Its no better then the scientologists or mormons in my mind.
dont diss religion because its not something that YOU yourself dont believe in....people have a right to believe or not believe and no matter if they are mormon or scientologist or nothing at all.....you should respect your mom and others just like you like respect for not believing at ALL
I was just thinking today its amazing how so many people can put Anti Christ pictures on their sigs and stuff....but when it comes to the believers...they dont
because they will get flamed for it
I guess its easier to not believe and have faith than it is to actually believe there is something out there for us after we die
If you dont believe in God, you need to believe in your parents......from that note you got, your mom loves you and believes in YOU and has faith in YOU...
she is the only woman that you will ever trust in your life

I know what you're saying, but without knowing your mom, I'd say that she just loves you and if she sees god as loving, she may throw that in there to show you just how much. I think religion itself is a scam, jesus was cool but not god, satan doesn't exist as an entity, etc. It helps some people. As long as it isn't pushed on me I think it's great for some folks.

And bitme, that would be bliss for me.

Bro, love & respect your mom always...
and maybe here's a thought:
try interpreting her words in your own manner. You just might find that what she is telling ya goes beyond any religious aspect or dogma.

I definitely appreciate her. But when she says things like this:
"But God is faithful and kind, and will see us, me particularly, through it"

its tough for me to take anything too seriously ya know? She is somene I wish I could go to for advice, experience, wisdom.. but when its all predicated on god's kindness, mercy, and faithfulness it basically makes me think to myself.. why bother?

Key words here bro!!

even though that may be a popular saying, it is an invalid one. there have been atheists in foxholes, as a matter of history. and even if there hadn't, it would not matter. if people in dire situations are compelled into belief in the divine, does that mean it is valid? not necessarily, but it is certainly human.

and if you are saying that believers often have an advantage over nonbelievers in times of suffering, you are quite possibly right. as i said, religion has its merits. as for the truth contained therein, that is complicated and quite possibly unknowable for one like myself. but still, i cannot properly consider myself a believer, because that is not who i am.

but there are so many incredible things to believe in.

I agree, Its more acceptable to be a non believer than a believer..

I've come to a point in my life where I can care less if people think Im nuts, looney, crazy, weird.. etc. I profess my love for God everyday when I want to. I praise him and pray to him and I don't care what anyone else things.

I don't expect everyone to agree with my beliefs, It would be nice and jolly sure. But I also don't feel like I should be frowned upon for believing that Jesus died on the cross for MY sins.

Don't mistake me not believing what my mom does as me not loving or respecting her as a person.

You love someone as a complete being, flaws and all.
