EMG 81/89 screaming pickups. Mahogany neck. And fixed bridge, so I can drop-tune whenever I want. I'm gonna use this as my main songwriting guitar at home, etc. Keep the other expensive ones for stage use.

Life's on hold until then Wed. Until then I will be cranky and putting down republicans.

Usually brand name is what sets prices, not quality. Kinda sucks but hey great for us musicians who know more about quality than names. In stores it goes for almost $800. I'm sure if Gibson made the exact same guitar, spec for spec, they'd sell it for $1500.

Plus country of origin also sets prices. Guitars made in the us are jacked up, even tho the quality is no different than ones in Japan. Lots of myths thrown by dumb guitar store employees trying to get your money.

my one daughter (8 y/o) decided a few months back that she want to learn to play the guitar (she has an unbelieveable voice so i thought it was a great idea). . .my old epiphone acoustic had been sitting in the corner of my bedroom for like 20 friggin' years. . .hadn't touched it, but i decided i would take lessons with her, since it would give us a chance to connnect on something we were both interested in. . .there's a guy in town that is a berkley grad and teaches guitar (and a few other instruments as well). . .50-something, serious music guy, but very cool and laid-back. . .after the first lesson, i went out and bought us a yamaha pacifica package (figuring that electric is a little easier for my daughters little 8 y/o fingers) that came with a 15-watt amp, strap, extra strings, case, cable and picks. . .it was like $300 for the whole package and it sounds (to me anyway) great. . .we've been playing for about 2-and-a-half months now, and we're both totally addicted. . .we both play about an hour a day. . .best move i've made in a long time. . .big fun. . .incredibly satisfying. . .

Yeah, learning guitar is a gift that one can enjoy immensely for the rest of their lives. It would be cool if guitar hero, etc. encourages people to start enjoying the love of playing music.

i've been playing the acoustic mostly but, i need to start playing the electric a little more often. . .the frets are tighter and the whole "feel" is completely different. . .plus i love the different noises you can make with the most subtle changes in finger pressure and positioning. . .

honestly, i can't imagine why i kind of lost touch with it for so long. . .it really is incredibly enjoyable. . .i gotta be honest, the internet has made it a LOT more enjoyable. . .the amount of information available to help you along the way is just incredible. . .i can honestly say that i'll never put it down again. . .i can't wait until the day (hopefully in a few years) that i can take my daughter to open-mike night at one of the local watering holes and play along with her while she sings. . .that would give me an awesome sense of accomplishment. . .

You know it's funny, i want to become a lot better at acoustic. I was training in electric, blues and metal. So I'm like slowly getting into fingerpicking, acoustic, southern styles. I love southern rock, folk music, gordon lightfoot type stuff.

Just keep at it, learn new songs, new covers, new tutorials on the web, jamming with others, it just keeps it more and more exciting with every new challenge!
