excuse the sophistry, but how do you know that he didnt cheat, or that she was driven to seek companionship/sex elsewhere by something he did (or didnt, or couldnt) do. how do you know that she wouldnt have achieved more if she didnt marry him in the first place? how can you be sure that she wasnt the one who motivated him enough to get out of the university and start the enterprise that made him a millionaire?

you cannot be sure that she wasnt instrumental in his success. nor can you say that he was not instrumental in her cheating.

The settlement decision was based on facts outlined in court, not these hypotheticals you are discussing.

they were a family unit, each of them fulfilling a role - he was the breadwinner, she was the childbearer. his achievement is easy to quantify (since you get monthly bank statements) while her efforts (popping out kids and all the other things people do) is harder to do measure - but is no less significant within that family unit.

another way to think of it is that she got half (less, really) of his labour over the years ($$ in the bank), while he got half of hers (kids all grown up and edjumicated by their mother).
