Cheap gym memberships.........

I have belonged to a broad variety of gyms and the cheap membership deals always bite me in the ass.

I was a member at Bally's in Aurora when it was rated one of the top 10 in America back in the 80's ( I have no idea how much that cost them). Belonged to several gyms since then.

They sent me a $100/year renewal notice and money was tight and 24 Hour cost me $54/mt so I bought 2 years for $200. It was also closer and actually had more young and fit chicks.

Well after 4 months (can no longer get a credit card credit) they tell me my membership is no good in Aurora............it is only good at a Denver club that I belonged to for a short time.

Now the renewal offer was for the Aurora club and I confirmed this on the phone. Talked to membership at the Aurora club and all they wanted was a big transfer fee.

I walked out and said they fucking sucked. I am so tired of being ripped off every other friggin day. Are their any corporations with any ethics at all?

Bally's fucking sucks.

You got off easy. Ballys is a criminal enterprise.
 
bally's is known for their "contracts".

at least with 24 hour you can cancel at any time, if month to month. if you do a prepay...well, then you dont pay after your time is up and the renewal notice comes. if you want out. if you dont like a club, the good thing is you can go to any other 24 hour(if you have all clubs, which most people get)

golds and worlds, of course, you get the atmosphere, but tend to be limited on other clubs and hours.

24 Hour was not too bad except that if you augment your membership privledges, you can never reduce them without cancellation.

I'm not sure whether to fight it or not. I can get really mad and it lasts for a while.

No good. YOu can do a search on my name and see my experience with Ballys.

Basically, when I moved down here, they had a free trial month for $5.

I went in and they told me it was standard to do the sales pitch and all that. I sat through that. (very aggressive) when I said I was not going to even think about joining before I tried the gym out they said ok.

I took out a $10 bill and the guy said he didn't have change, but he could do a $5 payment for the month on my charge card. I said ok. He did the charge ($5) and then had me sign a liability of injury form.

That was it. 3 days later, I told him in person that I didn't care to join the gym as it was too busy and they had a limited selection of equipment that I liked (only one leg press). 3 days later he called and I again said no thanks.

Ok, a few months down the road I was looking at my bank statement and noticed that they were withdrawing over $70 per month still. I went down there and complained. They gave me the run around saying that I signed a contract... etc.... but when I insisted I didn't, they threw me out the building.

I had to call the Broward Sheriff (on the advice of people on this board) and file a theft charge against them. They then said they would cancel my membership but no reimbursement because of the contract. I had my attorney contact them and request a copy of the contract in question and they told him it would take two months to get a copy from the corporate office. (WTF??) He wasn't happy with this and we filed motions to go to court. I specifically named the worker who took my credit card and manager who threw me out. Suddenly, they couldn't find the contract. They sent me a check for reimbursement minus a processing and handling fee of about $110. I sent the check back. They paniced and within 2 days, I had a Fed Ex package with a full refund check in it.

The BBB is full of complaints about this place.

Progressive Insurance sucks some big fat cock too, since we're on the subject of shitty corporations with no scruples.
 
Until recently I've had nothing but good experiences with Bally's. I have been a member for 8 years now. Started at like $45 a month for 18 mos. then it went down to $7 a month. Since then it has risen slightly every year(now at $11.80 per mo). This is for nationwide membership too. Now I find out the one close to me is closing next month. The other 2 near me are like 25 miles away(FUCK THAT). My other 2 options are a fitness club that is very plush along with every free weight and machine I'll ever need and a few locations($50/mo). The other is a hardcore gym that has only weights and one location($35/mo I think)

Fucking locations been there for 20 years and NOW the rent is too high, so they're closing. BASTARDS!!!!!
