I was talking with Raina a few minutes ago... and we were both reminiscing about this board and the people who were here in 2001-2002.

There were some "bomb" personalitites then. Smalls. Havoc. HappyScrappy. SatanicGoatslayer. They were intelligent, biting in their humor, and never mean or boorish.

If the year was 2010... and you were looking at the posters who were posting here in 2004... who would stand out and be worth remembering?
 
The 5 that came to mind first........

Tuc (always a funner fucker)
Spatts will be remembered for her contribution to the various training orientated boards.

Havoc is back, Happy Scrappy now calls himself OMGWTF.......... etc, and Satanic Goatslayer was without the doubt the meanest poster in the history of ef. Mostly he popped up and wished death upon active members while talking of disembowelment with sharp utensils....truly a spooky character.

BikiniMom (especially when this board was like a family)

For me humour played a part on the board in those great years (2001-2002) but the people who went out of their way to put some real effort into helping others - they are the ones I miss the most.
 
That reminds me of the anecdote about "Punch" the legendary British magazine. Someone once observed to the publisher that "Punch is not as funny as it used to be." To which the publisher replied "It never was". The point is, everything looks better through the rosy colored lenses of nostalgia. Its very easy to say "Things were so much better way back when,blah blah blah..." but what is needed is people who will put in the effort to make it great today. Instead of reminiscing about the past and complaining about the present, we ought to focus on doing our best to make Elite great RIGHT NOW, and Id like to think we are succeeding.

Some mentioned above will be made mods (AAP) , there is plat chat now but since i'm not i don't know how successful that is but back when Bouncer was here , a link to an MSN chat board was posted every night and the craic there was legendary.
 
The ones I will remember are those who were real. They didn't come here with the idea of creating an internet persona, they were just themselves and they never hid from anything they said. They never made excuses and they never went through any dramatic turn arounds. Basically, they were honest, and that counts for a lot in my book.

A lot has changed since way back when....

It's ironic though, how so many things remain the same. Those that were internet imbeciles were just that, plain and simple and those that were stand up remained that way.

The environment here at Elite has changed quite a bit and I wonder if there is any way to ever make things "right" again.

The C&C board members that I personally miss the most are:

SLOPAIN

and my alltime fav

SPECIAL BILL

Before May1010 blew a headgasket and went crazy... she was pretty funny but just didn't know when to stop.

I don't even know what to say anymore. My life has so personally been affected by the internet and specifically ELITE....

Maybe one of these days I actually will put it into print because the truth is always so much stranger than fiction.
 
I'm pretty new, but I think the posters here are very agressive (speaking generally) it is good to know that it wasn't always this way.
 
how did AAP get so popular anyways? i remember when he first showed up, and everyone was giving him shit for his analasplorer handle, then BOOM!!!! the next day he owns the board lol

Yes....he is HG Pennypacker. Doesn't post much.......and as far as his humor goes, it is the same, but the board is different now....like most don't even get it....whereas back "in the day" it was found to be some of the funniest.
 
Imo the board is better now than in the Big Buck/Agent SHagwell era, much less cliquey, back then unless you had a pair of tits there was no point posting.

I imagine back in the day when Wodin would carve posts into a large stone tablet and then throw it out of his hovel to whatever huge neighbors he had at the time, they too were lamenting on how they missed the good old days.

Personally, I think this board is great right now and I try my best to contribute to that impression. But either way, this board has a lot of history, so peoples' feelings will be all over the place as far as when the actual golden days were. For me personally this board improved 300% when the worst of the worst broke off and started their own board, and quit posting here. Its been so much better since then, off course IMHO as always.
