Changed my house water filter yesterday and

It was BLACK dirty as can be. It was so gross. For hours I was thinking about it, Just bugged me all night. It was the first time I used a less expensive filter. That was`nt the reason really. I must have left it in there longer than the recommended time, 3months or 5000 gallons.

Change your filters. or If you don`t have one get one.

Now the bottled water people come out... I have another filter on my fridge too. AND I have bottled water.

Could some or most of the 'black" be from the carbon?

Carbon filters turn black as time goes by thru repeated saturation.

I agree I`m guilty of waiting too long. I just forgot when I changed it last. I gotta put the date on there. lol

I actually would rather use the gallon method. = 5000 gallons and change it.

Either way it`s going into your system wether it`s slowly or all at once it ends up in your system. I`d rather take alot of it out with filters.

You can get a system to filter and soften the water for the whole house. showers and all

I prefer the Brita ones as well for drinking water only in the kitchen only..

I have a filtering system on my shower head to help soften the water that hits my smooth, soft, sexy skin.

My "Whole House Water filter" is right past my water meter where the water pipe comes into the house. This way everything gets filtered, EXCEPT I bypassed the lawn sprinklers lol They don`t need filtered water. You just cut the copper pipe about 8 inches apart and stick the filter in there.

You still need a filter if you have a water softener.

I have the $30 filter cartridges that I always use, That`s the last time I use the $8 ones. They just filter more stuff/particles.

You can get the whole thing for about $50 or so at Home Depot etc. Easy install or a plumber , really quick. I also have a small fridge filter in addition to that. I`m not gonna go overboard. That should be enough for me.
