chalk is good

when i pull 500 for the first time i will celebrate by using the chalk to make an outline around the barbell, just like the cops do when the find a murder victim. rest in peace mr. 500.

Be sure and put lotion on your hands 2-3 times aday if you will be using chalk a lot. My hands have dried out to the point they crack and bleed in some places.

Just FYI,

Yeah, well that's good if you gym allows chalk.

We actually have a gym in my town (one of the supossedly "premiere" ones) that doesn't allow chalk!

Now tell me just how the fuck someone is supposed to seriously move iron without chalk? I just about laughed in the staff member's face when they told me no chalk was allowed. Needless to say I don't go to that idiotic gym.

BTW if you heat the chalk in a spoon with a dab of water it's a mighty good buzz!!

Rosin bag.

Baseball section of a sporting good store, or go to a bowling alley. Next best alternative ti chalk, and no mess.:) Dirt cheap, too.

This was suggested to me and I have been using it ever since. Works great, comes in a small ziploc baggie, cheap, easy...what more do you want!

I remember that thread.:)

I still keep a bag around for when I travel. I always just assume a gym won't allow chalk.

Gloves didn't help me with my grip. In fact, they made it worse because I have relatively small hands and it made the bar "thicker" in a sense, which is harder to hold. Gloves are good for protecting your hands and keeping them nice and smooth/callous free. I really don't care about that...I just want to pull more weight off the floor! ;)

That's the exact same reason I ditched them. In fact, the first time I deadlifted without gloves, I used dirt from my garage floor on my hands because I didn't have any chalk or a rosin bag. The dirt was better than the gloves.:)

i surprisingly had more calluses on my hands from using gloves than i have now from just using chalk. there was an intermediate point where i wasn't using either, NOT pretty (my hands would start spontaneously bleeding during deadliftin.. chalk is god tho).
