What certifications did you go with? I m thinking about going through with AFTA (American Fitness Training of Athletes) anyone go through them? Whats some of the most recognizable ones?? thanks in advanced

the most recognized and accepted certifications are ACE, NASM, ACSM, and NSCA. Im pretty sure AFTA isnt nationally accredited, so you may want to choose 1 of the 4. ACE is one of the most common certifications, im about to go for NASM.

thanks yea me too i just got my CPR certification through local red cross, and now will start my NASM here in the next few days

Nice bro, which package are you getting from them? im looking at the cpt starter or the cpt standard. shits expensive but i expect to make my money back training people. good luck bro, dont forget, NASM requires you to take the test within 120 days (4 months), so make sure youre ready to bust your ass and read through everything and take it.it should take approximately 6-8 weeks to go through everything from what i hear.

Military veteran? you were in the miliatry? I hear you on the workout and eat all day. its so hard to find a decent job nowadays, and to be honest, a bachelors degree doesnt mean as much as it used to. all my friends have been out of school with bachelors degrees and theyre still jobless. and to be honest, i was never a school kinda guy. my favorite day was when i graduated high school. yeah, but basically, my schedules pretty repetitive, eating the same 6 meals a day, and weight training 6 days a week for 2 hours, same time every day, 45 minutes of am cardio every morning before breakfast. i love this sport and im so dedicated that i might as well get paid to help others.

Im gonna get this package this weekend most likely, i dont think i need anything more then the standard one.

Yeah, just get the standard cert and bottom line get started. I'm assuming you want to make money as a trainer, and so much of that is getting into the real world and learning how to get clients that are paying you top dollar. No cert will teach you that.

Consider racking up certs a fun hobby for down the road. But once you have a basic cert, get some experience and try to go independent as soon as possible.

Training can be tons of fun and have a huge upside, but keeping learning the business side of it so you don't burn out.

Good luck guys!

Hello,
I would recommend NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach if you have an undergraduate degree. Other reputable certifications include the ACSM American College of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise ACE. I am an instructor of Exercise Physiology and Kinesiology at the University level and often advise my students of these organizations when they are interested in becoming certified in the sports medicine field. Good luck!!:)
