Do you really need 150 credits before taking this CPA exam? Those extra 30 credits would have to be fullfilled with accounting credits, right? Also, what topics does this test consist of? Finally, I got a BA in Economics and I would like to go back to school for Accounting. Can I do that?

YES, YOU NEED 150 CREDITS TO TAKE THE EXAM. I DONT THINK IT HAS TO BE ACCOUNTING CREDITS THOUGH.

MAN, YOU SHOULD CONSIDER FINANCE IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A BA IN ECON. I DONT KNOW WHY BUT I HATE ACCT. I LOVE FINANCE THOUGH.

No, you do NOT need 150credits to sit for the exam, all you need to hold is a B.A/S in anything, but you would have to have 18 upper division credits from accounting classes. Thus, a B.S. in accounting is usually needed. You can basically sit for the exam w/ 120 credits, but can only recieve it after 150 (ALL depending on the STATE you are in). The extra 30 credits can be in some business classes, like the MBA program. The CPA, currently ONLY until 05/2004 when the computerized exam is implemented, is mostly Financia/Managerial/Law/Taxes -some economics.

GO TO: http://www.cpa-exam.org/ ...for more information.

If you have a B.A. in econ, I would suggest going into a MAcc (masters in accounting) program.

I have given the CPA exam in the state of california, and I assure you that it is NOT easy, so study HARD :)

Good luck!

I'M NOT SURE WHERE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT BUT I HAVE 3 OR 4 FRIENDS WHO ARE ABOUT TO TAKE THE CPA EXAM AND THEY ARE FINISHING THEIR 150 CREDITS. I ALSO KNOW A FEW CPA'S AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME PERSONALLY THAT YOU NEED 150 CREDITS TO SIT FOR THE EXAM.

A CLOSE FRIEND OF MINE HAS HER BACHERLORS IN ACCOUNTING. SHE CANT TAKE THE CPA CUZ SHE ONLY HAS 133 HOURS. I ASKED HER IF SHE WAS A CPA SHE SAID NO. I THEN ASKED WHY AND SHE SAID SHE COULDNT TAKE THE CPA TEST UNTIL SHE FINISHED HER 150 HOURS TO TAKE THE TEST.

MAYBE THE RULES ARE DIFFERENT IN THIS STATE BUT I KNOW THEY ALL TELL ME YOU NEED 150 HOURS TO TAKE THE EXAM.

Kayne,

It all depends from state to state, for example: in Hawaii, you can sit for the exam in the last semester (Nov) of your senior year provided you graduate that semester. I am not sure which state you are in, but I can tell you that in a few liberal states the requirement to SIT for the exam has changed to 120credits.

I have a Ph.D. in accounting if it helps, and I sit on the committee for the computerized CPA exam that will take action in 2004. We have tried to make the 120/sit rule for every state, but that is a hard task to accomplish. So far, we do have states that allow you to sit w/ 120 hours, so, again, it depends on the state.

P.S. I took my CPA/CMA/CFM/CIA in the district of columbia (not all, but parts) so I was not even required work experience to recieve the license. It's a good way to do it, if anyone is interested.....
