CCJ - Split snatches and cleans

CCJ:

How often are the split style cleans and snatches used? I've tried them recently and found them MUCH more comfortable, as I have with the split jerk vs. power jerk.

I have also noticed that they are not used much in competition. Are they typically less effective as weights get heavier, or are not as many people comfortable using them?

I'm really curious why I dont see them more often.

Thanks man.

Not used much, but some people do em, just not on the elite level
mainly used by older people in the masters etc

You can't get as low in the split lifts, well you have to be damned fast, and it isn't as stable
But it is easy shoulder flexibility wise, that's why the older guys use em in the snatch

It is a more old school type of style

there was a girl doing split cleans/snatches at the American nationals - clip here, but it's off line at the moment

if you keep working on shoulder and pec flexibility with shoudler dislocates everyday, then regular squat version do get easier.
Especially after benching workouts

i like doing splits with my jerk movements, however i have never tried split snatches. I could see how they would be difficult though. My favorite lift of them all..........behind the neck split jerks...oh hell yeah

Actually find them easier, well for power snatch anyway, less flexibility required.

You can get ready for the catch much more quickly with a split version.

Plus its more athletic, better for sports IMO.

Yeah the split snatch is a LOT easier than I initially expected it to be. Clean is a little more difficult, to me catching with the weight overhead is easer than with the weight at the shoulders. I need to get my clean higher though, Im thinking that doing more pulls is more important than messing with the catch for my needs.

I will have to try them out.....cool j, i have a question for you, when you do hang cleans with wraps do you stop at the top before you perform another rep or do you just clean it really quick and come back down quickly, which is better?

wraps? you means straps? hmm I have never used them for olys, except pulls sometimes

I take my time I guess. The only time I go quickly is when using a light weight doing higher reps

straps...yes thats what i meant, my bad, i find that straps help me a lot when doing lifts from the hang position, i dont use them when i do lifts off the floor though

Why not just use a hook grip? Straps are dangerous to use with the OLY lifts - what if you lose control of the bar?
