How many of you recommend doing cardio 2X a day...morning on an empty tank and later in the evening...would this be overkill..say 35min in morning and same at night? 5X wk you would do morning cardio...and 3X a wk in the evening...would this be good...or overtraining? on any cycle...or not...trying to loose some seriouse BF...and wonder if i should do this...

It all depends on the person and what their goals are. If you are not trying to get below 6% BF, then I'd say don't do it. The only time I recommend this is for BB's precontest.

I would say only do it once after lifting (except on leg day or course) I hit that eliptical after lifting and bust out 650 calories in about 45 minutes. I start to get burned out mentally if I try and do too much, but if you are preping for a contest as macki said, maybe so.

But it can amount to seriouse BF lose correct...being diet is on point...say do this for 8 wks?

this will clarify some things....

while lifting weights, youre burning alot of calories too.
surely you're not getting the cardiovascular affects as when doing 'cardio' but the calorie burning is there.

so if you plan on doin a.m cardio, no reason to do more cardio at night.
instead, go for a p.m workout.

or workout out in the a.m, then do some pm cardio.

but 2 cardio sessions per day certainly doesnt leave room to build muscle.

Im currently doing madcows 5X5 so lifting is only 3X a wk....morning cardio everyday..so i figured on the days i dont lift i could still do morning cardio and later on after school hit the gym again for another 30 min session of cardio...

Correct I did it 6 weeks before my wedding 1/2 hr in the am....1/2 hr in the pm. Worked awesome was down to 5% bodyfat. My diet is almost always on point. Haven't had a pop or candy bar since 1992. So if your diet is in check you should really be able to shed some serious bf. Give it hell Bro!

Whats up boogie man..i hear you...when you say there is no room for muscle building...but i do am cardio and lift in the PM...just on the days that i dont lift i thought it would be a good idea to do PM cardio..something to think about i guess...

I was thinking the same thing...and it would be for only 8-12 wks...not forever...just to get that BF down!

ok i see..
only on days that you DONT lift, you do a.m AND pm cardio..
i suppose thats fine although on rest days i like to rest my body... that means MAYBE 20 minutes low intensity cardio... TOPS!

But you're also putting yourself at risk for losing muscle. Are you going to do this ed or just on off days?

I do a.m. and p.m. cardio every day but i'm not concerned with muscle loss right now. It work's great if your sole goal is fat loss, however you will lose muscle.

just off days bro...so really only am/pm cardio 3X a week..and am cardio 5X a week...off days meaning not on lifting days.

if you arent trying to build muscle, no reason not too. Only thing is, looks like yu want to do it on "off" days from weight training. I would really think about making sure you have at least 1-2 days a week, where you dont do either cardio or weights, your body will need the break, especially your legs.
Currently I'm doing cardio 2x daily, 5x a week, plus my weight training, and its peeling the weight right off me. But on the 2 off days, my trainer stressed that I take it easy, and let my body heal

If you are going to do empty stomach cardio and work out at a seperate time thats all you will need.

Studies on empty stomach cardio show that it burns up to 2 times the amount of calories as doing cardio in the middle of the day.

Yeah i hear you bro...if i do that split then sunday would be my day totally off from the gym...i guess i could do the am/pm cardio 2X instead of 3X...so it would look like this:
Mon: AM (cardio) PM (lift)
Tues : AM (cardio) PM (cardio)
Wed: AM (cardio) PM (lift)
Thurs : AM (cardio) PM (cardio)
Fri: AM (Cardio) PM (Lift)
Sat/Sun : OFF.

thats gonna kill you leg routines. Last cardio I do before quads is the day before, and the amount of cardio has destroyed my leg strength, down from squatting 500lbs for reps, to the same amount on 405lbs, if I did it before on the same day, it would be even worse

oh i feel it..trust me...but all that aside..say my main concern is dropping body fat AND since the 5X5 has been good to me..maintaining (understanding that i probably wont gain any muscle) muscle mass...thoughts?
