cardio training

I have a client who is just starting working out and bought a bike and trainer and wants someone to train them on cardio. I have never done any cardio training and other than standing next to his bike telling him to keep peddling am not sure where to start. Anyone have any advice or know where to find some beginner cardio cycling routines.

ok, that aside.. get him to get a heart monitor, it will be the only way to be accurate enough polar ft80

am cardio at 65% on empty stomach
pre resistance training using interval training, that is he goes fast for 1 min slow for 2.. using the heart rate monitor to know when he is in the zone

20-30 post workout at low intensity again, using the heart monitor..

no way in hell i would have a client, new to cycling, and using new muscles do intervals right away..
no way.
when i was a runner, and just a few tick off the american record in the 1000, i got hurt eventually and took up cycling. first thing i was told is spin for 6 months before doing any fast riding. your in shape he told me, but running shape, not cycling shape. spin in an ez gear first to develope all the cycling muscles.
now with this client being a weightlifter, and just wanting some quick cardio, i would have him for a few weeks ride @ 80-100 rpm's, for 30 minutes , but in a few weeks, add some resistance so his heart hate goes up.
maybe a 30 minute workout.
