cardio or ab workout

Ok so i was wondering what would be best to do.
I work out 5 times a week
5-10 weight 197

Is it going to be better to workout abs or add the 15 min i do of abs to HIIT training? I do about 15-20 min. HIIT on elliptical, or treadmill after workout. So would it be better to add the 15 min of ab workouts to my HIIT and do ab workout once i get to my desired weight of about 185 or once the abs start showing? I would like hard abbs, but not really my intentions, just get rid of the excess weight their.

Do you not have time for both? You could do abs every other cardio session. Do 15min then hit abs hard, then do another 15-20min if you have the time.

In the morning i usually do 20min cardio then superset abs and lower back; 5 sets of 20 incline situps with 25lbs plate (I do 15 with the plate then drop it and bang out the last 5). Right after the 1 set of abs go do a set of hyperextensions 5x25 (if 25 reps is easy add weight)

I guess i could make time for both, just need to get to gym earlier.

So you mean do cardio 15 min. then do abs hard, and then do another 15 min. cardio?

Thanks

Sure, you don't have to do it that way, but thats how I do mine. Just do abs and lower back together, give them about 48hrs rest and do it again. By the time you get to the BF level you want your abs should be looking good

Hmmm, If i could only pick one (abs or cardio) I think a lot it would depend on your body fat. If its pretty low, then I'd spend the time on abs in order to build them up and make it easier for them to stand out. If your body fat is mid to high teens, I'd spend my time on extra cardio.
Just my two bits.

So do cardio if i have to make a choice until my bf is low. I figured doing more cardio to get my bf down will be more helpfull then working abs out at first. Ill still try to do abs when i have extra time though.

thanks

What I do is work on my abs & obliques with weights at the gym once per week. I found it much easier with better results than doing a large number of sit ups and oblique twists. I used to do 700 sit ups every other day up until I decided to work with weights once per week which delivered better results. Like others are saying, you need to keep your body fat low enough to where you don't have any flubber covering your abs. Try to run for maybe 20 minutes and set a goal where every time you jog, you add an extra minute or so. I rather not prefer doing cardio according to time. Time goes by so slow if you're keeping an eye open on the clock.
