Cardio and the best time for it?

I here alot of people say cardio is a waste of time when done in the evenings and not first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. What do yall think, is it true i mean dont you burn the food you ate that day instead of your fat for energy. So do you think cardio is a waste at the end of the day?

I like doing light/moderate cardio in the mornings on a empty stomach. I get good results this way if your goal is lossing weight.

I don't think that doing cardio in the evening is a waset. Cardio is done for health reasons and not just weight loss. Cardio in the evening will still burn calories and will increase your metabolism so your body burns more calories even when resting.

I have always done cardio in the morning on an empty stomache or right after a workout.

Works for me.

I do it in the PM after work cause I sit all day...train in the am......works for me...........there's no difference.........

when you do it right after your workout do you drink your PWO shake after the workout or cardio?

In my opinion morning cardio is great:

Kick starts your metabolism for the whole day, results usually come quickly - and when you notice results your motivation remains high.

You're more likely to burn fat on an empty stomach.

There's also the added benefit of improving mood - endorphins set you up for the day.

Of course you can do cardio in the evenings / afternoon and as buckwheat1 says the health / fitness benefits are still apparent. But in order to burn-up fat, cardio is best performed on an empty stomach (i.e. not eating approx. 4 hours prior to exercise) and for most people that's just not possible during the day.

i thought running on a empty stomach was bad for you due to ccataboic hormone cortisol?adn you are then using muscle for energy instead of fat?

i think the time that makes it feel best is in the morning on an empty stomach....... also a 10 mile run at night feels great! tough to do 10 miles on an empy stomach in the morning although 5 miles is fine

10 MILES? lol....did I stumble on the corss-country running board by mistake? Anyways, it all depends on your goals......if you arent afraid of losing a little or maybe a little more than a little bit of muscle, do it on an empty stomach.........me? I do it empty pre-contest and after work off-season.........I eat some tuna and flax (something light) maybe 1.5-2hrs before...........

I wouldnt reccomend anything above 65% MHR. You will be burning fat as long as you didnt just eat, and your blood sugar is low, and insulin is low. The times that this will happen, is upon wakeing and immediatly following a workout, before taking your shake. If you do it after your workout try to do 15-25 minutes, so that you do not miss the window of opportunity for your dextrose whey shake. Unless of course you are cutting completely.

OR..............train in the morning and cardio in the evening..........metob. is up all night that way.............

This is also true, except that arobic activity raises your metabolism only a little, compared to anerobic activity such as lifting. So it would be deffinatly better to do cardio in the mornings if you schedule and willpower allow you to do so.

Definately nothing.........IT DEPENDS ON YOUR GOALS....true, intense cardio, in an anabolic state, will chip away at muscle, since glyogen is at it's lowest in the AM.......if you DO NOT want to sacrifice muscle, do cardio later in the day...........

So would you still burn body fat doing cardio in the pm

My cardio is the morning is not high intensity. Heart rate would be between 100-130. I do incline treadmill and bicycle. I also take one ECA tab to help release fat during exercise. It also motiviates me to get my ass out of bed when I really feel like sleeping in for another hour.

I personally would not do high intensity cardio on a empty stomach. I think it would be too catabolic.

Technically, cardio is over 65% of your max heart rate. If you guys call this cardio then i never do it. I only do low intensity cardio, which isnt cardio at all, rather it is, fat burning aerobic excersize.

do you find that you are sacraficing some muscle by not taking in your pwo shake right after the workout? I want to know because i am thinking of doing my cardio after the workout first thing in the morning myself. I train first thing in the am at 0400 and do cardio in the pm. i would really like to get them both done in the am due to my job, sometimes i am to busy in the pm, so i have to skip my cardio. i dont do my cardio in the morning because im scared i will sacrafice to much muscle. so please let me know how this is working out for you? thanks

works well for me...I usually run in the morning (2-4 times a week) and do 30 minutes on the bike after my workout inthe evening. This is when cutting...I drop cardio to twice a week when bulking.

I wouldn't worry about losing muscle to do your cardio after a workout.

RIGHT NOW,. I (oops) train inthe AM for an hour max....then hit some very light/moderate cardio after work for 35minutes.....then some abs.........no PW shake in the PW, only after training.....

No, not really. The human body doesnt really work that way. Cardio is just as effective at night as it is in the mornings.

I beg do dissagree with this. Fat metabolism has to do with your level of activity, not with what you just ate.

Thankyou very very much outlaw for answering my ?

Still, your body will not be tapping into fat stores in the presence of elevated levels of insulin. Thats what I am saying.

yo big dog ive just started doing cardio right after my workout ,15 min is the most because i still like to hit that window of opportunity for my shake it seems to be working ok i also do 10-15min light cardoi before workout to warm up and get the blood flowin i just started doing this and it seems to work ok i still get my pws within 40 min of finishing my workout just my 2 cents
