Cardio and asthma

Chicken 'n Tuna

what is the best type of cardio to do for those with asthma.

How well do prescriptions drugs (albuterol, etc) work on asthma when it comes to exercise?

There are different types of athsma ,, i had it as a kid and it never effected me in training , if yours is bad then i would say walk on a treadmill at a low to moderate pace after a few months u should get used to it and pick up the pace,,, the albuterol works great for asthma.. also works a little to help aid in fat loss...

Excellent question my g/f is a asthma sufferer, and always gives up on cardio because she says it flairs up the asthma. Are there any links to sites or research that shows away to get asthma people doing cardio. Basically a routine that charts out effort and time until you can run or bike without an episode.

i have asthma - exercise induced, for 20 years now. i would suggest checking with the doc. situate your meds first, so that you know what you have and how to use it. (i have 3 different inhalers) in terms of the cardio, like wannabebig1 said, take it slow, see what you are capable of and slowly begin to increase intensity. i personally prefer the EFX, but my favorite is jumping rope.

I also have asthma, albeit mild. I would say puff on your inhaler right before cardio to get your lungs clear as possible (or whatever type of med you have). I usually dont feel tightness in my chest unless I'm running then im totally screwed LOL running is just horrible for asthma sufferers IMO. There were times running (actually '"jogging") where i could not catch my breath. Not good. So be careful. And i agree, talk with your doc first.

i have real bad asthma. I use Singular and Seravent(sp). I also take ahit from the inhaler before activity. Ive learned that any cardio will improve your asthma over time

My asthma doesn't really make my chest tight. I just get really winded quickly.

I push myself to jogging a half of a mile, and by that time - I feel like collapsing. I can do sprints without worry... (although I can't do a 4 min HIIT set) With sprints my muscles give out before my lungs as long as I catch my breath after each set.

I thought I was just really out of shape, but this is how i have ALWAYS been. I jogged as far as I could .5-.6 mi / 3 days a week for 6 weeks - but things never got better. I always gave out on the .5 mile.

I've had asthma my whole life, the best advice i can give is to work up slowly, when i first started I couldnt walk on a treadmill for 2 minutes (no joke) without getting all winded and struggling for a breath. 3 months later I was running 8 minute miles at 220 lbs and didnt even have to use my inhaler after :)
