Car stereo install sites?

Dooley

New member
Does anyone know a site where I can learn the basics of installing my cd deck in my new car? I've always wanted to learn, but I don't really want to take the certification course on it, and I don't want to keep paying out the ass for installs the rest of my life. Any ideas?

What is it that you don't understand?
Buy the car kit for your car. Buy the connector to match your new stereo cables with your car cables. Match the colors together. Find a ground. Then your set.

Well.. I pretty much understand that.. but I don't know how to take out the factory deck, or how to fit the new deck into the factory slot. The factory deck is about twice as tall as my own deck.

What kind of car is it? and Year.
The carkit will fix your factory slot problem.

Well.. I took a look at my car and figured out how to change all 4 speakers once I get new ones, as well as remove the dash cover and wire covers below the dash. It's easier than I thought. I just need to figure out how to attach a new harness and put in a new deck. But I think I'll wait on that until I start my new job and buy a brand new deck all together and put it in myself. Or try anyway.

I've always wanted to do that Nav, but I guess I just assumed I would always get turned down or laughed at. The only reason I figured that is because then that's just one less future client they might have because at that point I might be able to do my own work. However, like you said, I might get lucky. Worth a shot I guess! Thanks!
