car audio question

I was just switching out amplifiers - while wiring everything, the last wire to be hooked up was the battery wire, but it accidentally crossed over and hit the remote wire/terminal, and made a small spark. Then my whole stereo system quit working and the dash light went out also. I replaced the appropriate fuses but nothing happened. I hooked up the old amp again to see if it fried something inside the new amp, but no luck with the old one. Anyone have any idea what the hell happened, or how to fix it??

What fuse did it blow? the one on the amp? Do you have one under your hood right by your battery on the power wire?

I hope you dont live near me.

You blew your lead fuse.

Open the hood to your car and find the RED power wire leading to your battery. There is a small fuse about 10 inches from the battery on that wire. Change it and you are good to go.

BTW this is coming from my car audio installer roomate:)

I agree with gaurds. I have my own problem. I have two outputs, one is normal, the other is supposed to be.... what is the word... argh. But it sends the sidnal out differently somehow. Anyhoot, that one quit working, and is the one I used to use. Oh and it was a kenwood mono something another amp. can't think of the name

Thanks for the non-attention seeking replies dudes.

The lead fuse wired straight into the battery into the engine compartment - I checked it & the fuse inside (glass vial shaped fuse right?) had the metal piece inside intact. I was under the impression that when a fuse blows it is somewhat similar to a lightbulb blowing out - the filament inside breaks. Am i wrong? Anyhow, I'll get that fuse replaced and see what happens.

all fuses do not usually look bad visually i have come accross some that looked perfect but checked open!

Don't forget some cars not only have fuses in the dash, but also under the hood.

Dont be like my brother at age 16 that ran a small gauge wire to a huge amp underneath a bunch of paper trash on the rear floorboard and have your car burst into flames going down the highway and have to bail out and watch 3year old car and $1000.00 stereo transform into charcoal with half the world watching. Take your time, buy the right shit, have a pro do it when you can afford it. The non english speaking ones seem to do a pretty good job on them around here.

i checked the battery wire fuse and it didnt look blown. i replaced it anyways and still no go. I'll have a shop check out the relays and whatnot, thanks guys
