Car Audio Freaks. I need some help.

ive been in the car audio scene for a while, my last creation was a 93 isuzu rodeo, with 8 12" fosgate subs, runin off 1 comp. orion amp.

well i dont have my rodeo, but still have this amp. its 50 watts X 1 channel at 4 ohms and stable down to .25 ohms. my question is, i want to run just 2 subs in my new bronco. what subs would be my best choice. i want to be able to run the 2 subs at like 0.5 to 1 ohm to get the most booooooom. i perfer 12" subs, but might go 15".

is there a way to do this, run dual voice coil subs, wired in parelel or some shit. im t up on the tech end of this as much as i was before.

I dont know much about the actual information on what to put, but try a car audio website and tell them on the message boards what you may need.

How did you run 8 subs off of one amp? I got 2 tens and I dont even think my amp is enough..Did you use crossovers and all that kinda shit?

I got 2 550W Zeus 10 inchers in a dual band pass box with a 800W amp hooked up to it. I carried that shit through downtown NYC in 100degree weather when i bought it.

I heard the sony Xplode speakers suck. Pioneer makes some good shit..Maybe get some PileDrivers....Remember those lol

some simple rules on resistance, anytime you wire resistant loads in parrellel, you use the product over sum method. ex.

two subs @ 4ohm each wired in parellel.
RT(resistance total) = R1 X R2 divided by R1 + R2,
4 X 4 / 4 + 4
= 16 / 8 = 2ohms.
or you can use the reciprocal method
1/RT = 1/4 + 1/4
1/RT = 2/4
4 = 2RT
2ohms = RT
or you can follow a simple rule, since most people wire subs that have the same resistance, take the number of subs and divide it into the common resistance of the subs. so ,
4 subs @ 4ohms apiece. thats 4/4=1ohm.

ok, so your problem is you wanna get the most out of your orion amp. its rated at 50watts into a 4ohm load. i haven't kept up with orion lately, but are you sure its not a(225 HCCA model) 2 channel amp rated at 25X2into four ohms, because thats a big difference. that would make it 100watts x 1 channel into a four ohm load. big difference.

im gonna go on the premise that i am right. regardless the numbers can be translated. so, this thing is stable down to a bridged 1ohm load. so you need to present a 1ohm load with your speakers.

personally, i would do this with four speakers 4ohms apiece. so thats 4speakers/4ohms apiece = 1ohm load. perfect!

the increased efficiency of four speakers is better than just two dual voice coil speakers wired similarily. plus you get increased cone area. in other words,i would use 4 tens over 2 twelves, or 4 twelves over 2 fifteens. but i believe 4 tens would be a perfect match for this amp.

as far as subs, there are too many good ones to list, kicker, mtx, fosgate , etc, just too many. but i always preferred kicker in a sealed box. a nice tight bass sound that moved alot of real air.

i ran 8 12" rockford fosgate punch subs, which were all 8 ohm subs. they were ran in parrelel down to like .5 ohm, which had the amp pushin 800 watts RMS i think. my rodeo could hit 143dbs easy, and that when they measrued the pressure at the bottom corner of the front windshield (the quietest spot in your car).

all im looking to do is wire the subs to this amp so the amp is pushin some high watts.

thanks spongebob. the amp is an older hcca amp, its about 5 years old, but has low time on it, and runs great.
but your info really helps

the four tens should be great then, and speakers are way better now days.

if you really want to get down to .5ohms, then you can get four 2ohm speakers, 2ohm/4 speakers = .5ohms. but not many manufacturers make 2ohm speakers, or run four dual voice coil speakers. basically wiring all coils in parallel. 4ohm coils / 8 coils = .5ohm.

yea, back then the 140's was high. i ran 4 fifteens with an orion 2125 sx model. i wired four 4ohm fifteens in a parallel-series load, which comes to 4ohms. my amp was rated for 500W bridged. i consistently hit 145 for about 4yrs. but i had a small truck with a small interior. i deadened the hell out of it and just about sound proofed it on the inside. it was a pretty good little competitor. i still have the equipment, thinking about installing the amps in my GT now. just for the hell of it. and now after this post(aww, the memories), im really excited.

i saw a sweet set of kaption's at east hamilton radio last week,about 500 canadian for the both and right now kaption is top of the line
