Capital Punshment: Barbaric or NO?

I have no problem with it........

However I feel it's ineffective as it's not carried out quickly or consistently enough....

women usually don't. mostly because even if they do drown a bath tub full of kids, people are still reluctant to kill women. enjoy....

I agree the Govt needs to fear the people not the other way around..But the people also need to know there is the law and if people don't abide by the law there is a price to pay..It seems stupid that a person who has been proven beyond a doubt to be a killer of numerous people is allowed to live off of our dime for years on end while they tie up the courts with appeals..Why should we waste time or more importantly money to keep people alive that don't deserve to be alive...

usually barbaric, though in some circumstances, rationally (ie needs of the many vs needs of the few, greater harm vs lesser harm) it is completely logical, and hence quite civilised

I think it should be carried out only for certain crimes. Other crimes should be punishable by the type of prison and the standards of living they have.

For example, these big companies that the head honchos screw over their employees? I think causing severe stress upon a massive amount of people as they did justifies the death penalty. They did it PURLEY for Greed with no care about the lives they destroyed. They should be put to death for the harm they caused.

Greed at such levels should be punished by death. In the cases were it isn't as severe as Enron was, forced to work in a Soup Kitchen and live in a Homeless Shelter at night for X amount of years.

Anything that leaves a person scarred for life, rape, is automatic death. Anyone that would rape a person and leave them destroyed for so many years deserves worse then death, but I will settle for it. I despise Rapist, they are the filth of the Earth and do NOT deserve existance.

YES...the problem is, in the US we wait 20 years after the incident. IF-a crime that calls for DEATH is "indisputeble"- it should come SWIFTLY.

I am against Killing of any kind

I would be a vegetarian if I could but I need Chicken Breasts daily for my Muscles:(

I hear ya on the vegetarian thing, couldn't do it myself....


But I'm more against someone committing a horrific crime getting to live on the taxpayers dime for the rest of their lives.....
 
In my opinion Life in Prison is much more of a penalty then Death

Killing by innocents against a devil or a legitimate State apparatus killing a guilty murderer in my opinion dirties the soul and honor of good

I like this line of thought. How many lives were shattered, or negeatively affected by these greedy fuckers.

Some people thrive in prison..
1. None of us are innocent.
2. These people (Saddam, rapists, child or cop murderers, serial killers, etc) need to be given no chance of repeating their crimes, or influencing others. IMO, when they die, it is for the good of their society, not for the appeasement of someones anger, or strictly for punishment.

Erm, I highly doubt it.......Just having to live in a cell for the rest of your life is nowhere near punishment enough for raping & killing a family member......

Now being nailed to the ground & covered in fire ants while IN said cell - hmmmmm, maybe.....
 
I'm pretty much in the 'eye for an eye' camp although I'm beginning to think that, if I were a family member of a victim, life w/o parole might be more of a punishment that a quick death.

NOT having freedom FOREVER for an insane person or Devil is the worst thing you can do to them.......

there very nature of insane INDEPENDANCE would suffer most in Prison
 
Was talking about this on New Years. I think it sets a bad example about killing being o.k., but if it was some one close to me that got murdered, then I can see myself wanting that person who did it to die.
 
I do believe that living in prison for most of us would be unbarable but in the long run it is us that pays the price to house these criminals through taxes. I say if we are gonna put them to death why wait 10+ years to carry it out???

I tend to agree with this, but the cost is prohibitive for mere punishment. Then there's our lovely legal sytem that allows a lot of these nutcases to get oout, or affect other prisoners in a negative way.
 
absolutely necessary. . .some people are so wicked and so broken that they can't be fixed. . .execution/assassination is the highest form of public service. . .
 
I think that they should be made to do hard labor to support themselves in prison, at least. I waffle on the issue lots. As of today, I feel that it is barbaric and only spreads more misery. No one feels better for it. Nothing is changed.
