Please ladies, anyone know a lot about skin cancer? I ask because my mother and her mother(my grandmother)both have it. My grandmother told us about a year ago she had skin cancer, then it I guess moved all over and made a different kind that will kill her quickly. I don't know the name of it&hate to bring up a bad subject. Then my mom tells me a week ago that she had a cancer place removed from her chest. She also has cancer on the outside/inside of her mouth. It had been on the outside and moved through. She has to have part of her mouth/face removed and plastic surgery to correct it. What are the chances that this will take care of it? Has anyone had any experience with this? I already lost a grandmother, grandfather, great grandma who have passed on from cancer. I am hoping you ladies can help, this is getting hard on me.:(

I can't give you any info on what will happen in your particular case however, my mom, dad, and gradfather have all had skin cancer. My grandfather had to undergo extensive radiation and surgery on his nose, and my mom and dad both had surgical removal. It seems to be one of those things that you need to stay on top of.

Get yearly skin checks by a dermatologist if you:

Have many moles.

Notice a change in size, shape or color of moles.

Spend or have spent a lot of time in the sun or sun tan beds.

Melanoma is easily cured in its early stage, but once it gets deep into the skin and spreads, you're history.

and, know the basics about what various types of moles look like.

I never tan anymore because I don't want skin cancer.. Besides the fact that tanning ages you, it's not worth it.. My moms is 5 years older than her sister in Florida, yet she looks 10+ years younger because her sister lives in the sun..

Cancer runs high in my family. My docs told me as long as you keep yourself in good health and visit your dermatologist and doctors regularly you have a better chance of preventing and/or treating cancer. Early detection is the key as with most illness/disease.
