Canadians- beating customs- input

Yo, Canadians. I need to know a few things regarding Canada Customs-

- are seizures on the increase? Customs website says they are getting more (sophisticated?) xray equipment...that means they can spot amps, bottles more easily.

- are suitcases subject to the same degree of stringency, re searches, than mail? I know of 2 instances, one in 1999 and one in 2002, where a Canadian went to Canada from Asia (not thailand) with at least 50 plus amps and lots of tabs, in his suitcase. no search on either occasion.

- two packages sent to canada were opened. they didnt search carefully enough, from what i gather.

So, to beat customs, do you think you stand a better chance through the mail or simply toss it in your suitcase. if, in the second chance, you are caught with, lets say, 50 amps, what would happen?

Sending packages via surface mail (ship)- takes 6 weeks, and I doubt that illegal contraband is sent by this method as customers dont want to wait up to 6 or 7 weeks to get their shit. SO, would it not stand to reason that the searches done on packages sent surface mail are less stringent? after all, canada customs has only so many xray machines and employees, and i bet their efforts are concentrated on airmail.

Well, Customs is mainly focusing on money through the mail. This started in mid-August.

Under no circumstances should you send money to canada in the mail.

As far as seizures...Vancouver is a pain in the ASS.

The RCMP has also been known to call people who's packages are seized. It's mostly a stupid mind game and they don't usually follow through.

I don't fully understand your question...

I was basically wondering that, if you were coming to canada(from oversease) and wanted to bring gear with you, would it be best to:

1. bring it in your suitcase
2. send it airmail, takes 2 weeks, the most common route for incoming steroids.
3. send it surface mail, ie ship, takes 6 weeks

And i was also wondering if the customs searches are more thorough in case 1, 2 or 3. My theory was that for case 3 it would be less thorough and this is the safest way.

I was also wondering what penalties await someone who is caught with gear intheir luggage.
