Hey,
Im brand new to this site.
Id say im a reasonably strong kid. . . im 16, naturally pretty strong, but i know thats not even close to being enough.

I dont know much about body building/toning... all i really want to do is get in better shape in general.

Ive got muscle but i want to develope it a bit more, but mostly i want to get rid of the layer of flub over these muscles. I have no clue how to approach this, and im not expecting anything that works in no time at all.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum section to post in, just trying to make a start somewhere and this seemed like a good place.

oh umm.. as for my specs..
5'7"
approximately 165-170 lb.
I dont know how to calculate body fat... but its more muscle than fat =p im not a lil porker =) .

Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

A few things you can do.

1) hit the cardio hard.

2) Hit the weights hard to increase muscle mass (which increases metabolism)

3) Make sure you're in negative calorie balance or in equilibrium. Check out the diet board for more information there. Make sure you eat small meals, this also keeps your metabolism up all day.

Do those things, and you'll lose that layer in no time. If you want to lose weight (which I don't suggest), stay in negative calorie balance...that just means eat less than you expend.

Thanks!

As for cardio, I do aggressive rollerblading alot... probably not enough to count, but, if i was to do yet more, would that count enough as cardio?
I am under the impression that rollerblading, in terms of excercising is less of a workout than running, so im wondering if im recieving as many benefits.

As for small meals... >8( Ive got quite an appetite, but i guess ill have to tone that down some. Im not too worried about losing weight, I just want to tone my body up a little bit. I figure its just about time i took a pit stop =)

Rollerblading is ok...just check your heart rate every so often and make sure it's elevated up to about >130. And more is better. If you want to tone up, but not concerned about losing weight, hitting the iron is the best way to go...You'll increase your muscle mass, and that in and of itself will make you lose the fat.

def. hit the weights man...it will elevate your resting metabolic rate so you'll burn more calories just sitting around doing nothing

I gained the most weight when I ran my calories up to 6000 per day and concentrated on major compound movements. Deads, squats, cleans and bench. I was a typical ectomorph. 128lbs soaking wet with rocks in my pockets. I'm 210 now, but that is after 12 years.

sorry for the lack of response, ive been busy.
Well as for rollerblading im not talkin about like.. just doin down the sidewalk =p thats easy stuff. Im one of those "Damn kids" thats doing the crazy stuff on rails etc... not sure which is more cardiovascular... but it does wear me out.

In my school we have a Strenght & conditioning class... we lift weights for 1 hour (our schedule rotates... 3 days of the class, then no class, then 3 more days.. etc etc), the 2nd hour (2nd day) we do a buncha stuff like lunges etc, then run for 15 minutes, 3rd hour (3rd day) we pretty much do a buncha weird squats on different stuff...

And now for my point about all that... is that enough or should i be doing more?

To be honest, you've definatley come to the right place, joining this place was one of the best things I did last year (pretty sad I know) becuase the info and knowledge on this site will blow you away, I thought I knew what I was doing down in the gym every night but after reading and posting on here, the diet board..etc for a couple of months I found out that I didn't actually have a clue, I am doing CKD now, which is giving me the results that you sound like you are after (I take it you wanna get more ripped, not bulk up?!?!), good luck!

pretty much... Im not really in it to be the next he-man or anything, just doing it so my body is something ill appreciate more...
So does anyone think the previously mentioned stuff is enough or should i be doin more?

He can't do 2 if he's doing 1 and 3

haha yes jordan i joined, after seein what this place did to you... how could i not :supercool hrmm... why cant i do 2 if im doing 1 and 3? and can anyone inform me as to if im doin enough? =p Jordan, u got any idea?

because 1 and 3 put your body in a catabolic state and to do 2 you need to be anabolic.

Don't do tons of cardio and eat low cal -that's crap advice. maybe do x3 20 minute cardio seesions a week and concentrate on 2. Don't eat a crazy bulking diet, eat maintainence or just above and with the weights and increased muscle mass you will eventually start leaning out. Build some muscle first before worrying about cutting - HOWEVER,WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T TRY TO BOTH AT THE SAME TIME,THAT'S A RECIPE FOR DOING BOTH HALFASSED. If you are very fat then go ahead and cut a little first before hitting a fullbore weights program but I would just do it the slow, safe effective way I described

i agree, sean u need more muscle, bulk before awhile before you worry about being a pretty boy muscle man :) else you'll just be a pretty boy pencil :)
