Can RAM be incompatible with a system?

I just installed some RAM and here is the synopsis.

When I attempt to turn on the computer, it turns on for a second, makes an irregular buzz noise, then powers down. Then about 2 seconds later repowers up and just stays there, no signal to the monitor or anything. Just stays idle. So yeah, the RAM is probably just fucked right? I about died laughing when it didn't install. I just wanted to make sure this is a sympton of faulty RAM and not incompatibility.

I had something like that when I install new RAM on a system a while back. I turned off memority parity in the BIOS and that fixed it.

I had my sarcasm meter off. That's because my hot man buttlove meter was on overdrive.

Razor Ramone, please elaborate.

ram could be incompatible, plus on some you have to put chips in a certain order if they are different sizes, and all configs don't work, your owner's manual should have the settings...

I just need to know before I send the people I ordered it from a complaint and refund request. The system acts weird. It powers up for just a second, shuts off, then repowers up and just hangs. Doesn't that sound like faulty RAM more then which slot the RAM is in?

depends, I've had stuff like that happen when one of the chips wasn't properly seated. if it is in the wrong slot/order, it could just ignore it, or the computer could fail to boot...

If you have a coupl of sticks single test your system with each one to start.... what kind of motherboard do you have and what type of ram did you install?

RAM can definately be incompatible with a PC. I had this problem when rebuilding an old PC. I didnt do the building however, so I couldnt tell you the exact symptoms and why it didnt work. But I did need to buy newer RAM.

You have to know what brand motherboard you have. Then you have to check on the website of the brand maker to see what brands it is compatable with. Even if you have compatable ram, there's always the chance that the ram itself could be bad
