Can I split a DSL line?

I want to install a computer upstairs. Can I split my DSL line so that both computers have internet capability?

Does Sylvania make a decent monitor? Their 19" monitor is only a couple hundred. Goota love big monitors. I remember paying about 1400 for this 21" Hitachi. It still works perfectly. Nice to sit 4 feet from the computer, prop up your feet, and relax.

you have to buy a switch or wireless access point. Most of them have the ability to run NAT, which will let you have mulptile computers "share" the one IP address your ISP gives you.

Where is this switch procured? Any computer store? Is this simple to do?

I had two computers running off the same DSL connection... you can do it several ways.

My computer has 2 network cards, and I ran a cable to the other computer and set up an internet sharing environment.

You can also have a hub or router... this is a little better for "interent" security reasons... because your IP is on the router and IT assigns IP's to any computer attached to it... kinda hard to break in. :)

all you have to do is buy a dsl/cable modem router.. they arent too coslty and you can run 4 computers off of one router. most also come in with a built in firewall to protect the computers. Dlink and Linksys make decent ones at good prices.

Thanks a lot NB! Only other question is do you think it would work with my old 450 MhZ running Windows 98?

yeah, most of that stuff comes with software you install on your PC. however all you have to do is make sure that your network card works on your old PC. basically you really have to plug your pc into that piece of equipment and you're set. it'll come w/instructions on how to config your PC to allow for DHCP. the directions are usually pretty self explanitory.

Yeah, Linksys is a good one, however, it does not work with the model of DSL modem I have currently....
