ok i was told to post here so i hope you guys can help me out

Hey people.

First off I would like to say what a great forum you have and I am looking forward to being a part of it.

Ok basically I am tired of searching the internet on “weight gain tips and info” because:

1. I am clueless.

2. There’s too many sites out there trying to promote there “amazing products” and I am guessing that half of the things they “claim” are bullshit.

3. I have no idea on prices, quality, quantity or anything in the supplements market. I have seen a lot of things on eBay but I think if I went and brought something I would get ripped off.

So, here I am looking to get some honest and professional opinions from some experts that have had previous experience.

I am 18 years of age, 140 pounds (10 Stone) and about 5`8.

I am looking to gain about 2 stone but I have a really poor appetite and a crazy metabolism.

I have a gym membership and will get all the weight training advice from them when I go to workout but I would really appreciate if you guys could recommend some products with pure weight gain goodness!

I have about £120 ($214) to spend on supplements a month.

This sounds really corny but I am interested in body building and all the aspects of it but I find it hard to study considering college and 2 jobs.

If you could reply with some quick tips or some recommended products I would be amazingly grateful. Please no links to websites with info as I have been surfing for around 5 hours tonight (that’s right I sacrificed my Saturday night :-( )

Keep in mind that I will follow the advice people will give me, and I will buy the products people recommend.

Thanks, James

being that you are only 18 I would suggest skipping the supplements for now, except maybe a protein supplementation to help get some extra protein in your diet, and focus on your diet. With your weight, your metabolism is high enough to just eat everything in sight. Don't worry about fat gain, it will probably not be an issue. Focus on compound exercises to gain strength and size i.e. bench press, DL, squats, overhead press, ect. And once again, EAT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN and you will grow.

You're going to see the biggest benefit from simply eating more food. Get some protein powder and some dextrose for after a workout, and maybe a multi-vitamin, but other than that, I'd spend your money on plain old food. Don't worry about all the glossy supplement ads. Eating more calories is going to make a much bigger difference - just spend your money on the stuff that matters.

The simplest thing you can do is to have four reasonable sized meals and a gallon of milk every day. You will put weight on doing this! Don't worry about the occasional burger, just eat more.

Cell Tech, stacked with GAKIC.

Please no links to websites with info as I have been surfing for around 5 hours tonight (that’s right I sacrificed my Saturday night :-( )

I would go into more detail but apparently your time is too valuable to be spent reading websites. Try asking at your local GNC what they reccomend.

this might sound a little ridiculous but im 6'3 and when i was 20 i weighed 150 lbs.i force fed myself 50 lbs of baked potatoes a week in between regular meals.i gained 50 lbs in 4 months.

Lots of clean, low fat food will do nicely for quite a while.
Supplements are nothing but that anyway.

If you are dtermined to buy some .... whey protein, creatine and a chewable multi-vit will do nicely.

Invest in some books about nutrition and eat, workout, and recover.
Take a really good look at the simple sugars in your diet ... high glycemic.
They could be making your metabolism "crazy".

to add to everything said already: a gallon of milk ED (preferably whole milk)... divide it into 6-8 helpings. 8-10 egg whites per day, lots of rice and/or pasta. i don't even think you'd need the protein powders unless it's an absolute emergency - like when you don't have time. and of course, plenty of compound lifts, 3-4 days/wk.

If you're willing to spend that kind of money on supplements, first buy the e-book Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle by Tom Venuto. He's a professional with no supplements to sell or axe to grind and the book offers straight-down-the-line, no bull information on exactly what you're looking to do. Best of all, it is all in one place and gives enough information that you can set up your own program (and know the REASON for everything you're doing), monitor your progress and tweak it yourself - no paying someone else big bucks. BFFM is the best resource I've found for those starting out, especially for diet, cardio and resistance training.

For the really new to weight training, cardio and diet, the best resource I know of is Body for Life, a 'real' book by Bill Phillips. It is very detailed and very good on how to weight train for the starters and how to play the mind game of fitness. It is not into the 'reasons' for everything and won't show you how to tweak - that is where BFFM comes in.

Those two resources might set you back $60 - but will save you much grief and frustration in both the short and long term. Oh, supplements? Your results are about 80% diet, 20% training and MAYBE 3% supplements. "Miracle" supplements are, IMO, a waste of your hard-earned cash. Do the reading and use the information first. There is NO free lunch!

As far as the 'tried and true' supplements - a good protien powder is good if you're 'on the run', though you will want to use real food as much as possible for the thermogenic (read: metabolism on fire) effects. Essential fatty acids in the form of fish oils or flax seed oil (or Udo's oil blend) are critical and so is a good multi-vitamin/mineral supplement THAT YOU ABSORB. I'm not fond of Amway/Quixtar, but their vitamin and mineral products are excellent in that regard.

Get the books, read the books - do the work! And enjoy the results.

One last bitsy - at your age, stay off the steroids. You will not attain your full growth until about age 25 (guys continue to naturally fill out and bulk until that time), so use your natural growing time to maximize your gains without the sides of the drugs!
