Cambered Bar Question

Banned
This may be stoopit, but I just can't seem to get it to make sense.

Today, I squatted with a cambered bar. The "drop" put the weights right around hip level. The weird thing, is that there was no where near the "perceived" force needed by me to move the same weight as if it were directly on my shoulders. I honestly thought about going for a big PR today, but because of my groin injury, and new equipment, I threw the flag on that (actually my partner talked me out of it and just started deloading the thing while my gums were wagging).

The way I see it, I was moving the same weight, the same distance, so there was no difference there. So my pea brain is telling me that the perceived effort and/or force should have been the same. Yet, I can't begin to tell you how much that was not the case.

Thoughts?

Ah Iv always wondered what a cambered bar was, thanks SL.

bblazer, did the cambered bar weight the same as the bar your usually squat with?

The cambered bar is roughly 65 lbs, while my squat bar is roughly 45.

Sorta adds to the confusion of the issue doesn't it...

Maybe its a matter of how easy the cambered bar is to balance especially if the squat bar bends a little when you squat where as I would have thought the cambered bar would give a move firm and controlled feel to the weight... just a wild guess though Iv never used a cambered bar so I could easily be wrong...

I think it may have to do with a lowered center of gravity.

I think you're right. The biomechanical advantage of having the weight closer to your more powerful quads and hams. It also takes the pressure off to stabilize the load. (Big advantage for someone in your condition.)

An imperfect comparison can be made to those squat machines. Same concept just to the greater extent.

I looked pregnant yesterday.... well everyday now, lol. Everyone keeps telling me i have a gh gut.

On topic though, with most strongman events where you are carrying something like a front carry, conans wheel, yoke, etc. The lower the weight is to the floor the easier it is.

I'd like to have one to take the strain off my biceps/elbows/shoulders a time or two. My father in law may try to build me one out of 2" schedule 80 pipe.
