Cals in protein?

JOKER47

Elite Mentor
I know this should be on the Diet Board, and a Mod can move it if they want to, but does anyone knbow how many calories are in protein?

I am thinking about buying some pure whey protein powder, and am curious as to how many calories there would be in 1oz of powder. (1oz measured dry.)

If anyone knows the answer and/or can point me to where I can get it, karma to ya.:)

Thanks,
Joker

1g protein = 4 calories
1g carbs = 4 calories
1g fat = 9 calories

As far as I can remember...

Cool man, thanks.

You wouldn't happen to know where you got that info, would you? For future reference......

Karma at ya.....:)

Joker, it's on every food label in your kitchen. At the bottom of the label it almost always says":

Protein . 4 Carbs . 4 Fat . 9

Also if you look at the carbs and multiply by 4, and protein by 4 and fat by 9...then add those three numbers, you will see they equal the total cals. :)

I'm afraid that still doesn't answer your Q tho.

1/3 of a cup is about 31g of most pwders, but powder weight can change that. 31g is about 1 ounce.

Thanks Spatts.:)

I'm not at home, or I would have looked. :) (I'm....uhhhhh....busy at work.) I checked a few labels on-line, but they didn't list anything like that.

Thanks again,
Joker

Doesn't alcohol have like 7 kcals per gram?

Most proteins I've checked out are around 100 cal/scoop, if that helps. They're not all protein... the composition varies by brand, so check the label.

Joker, one oz is 28.35 grams... so if this protein were STRICTLY progtein, no carbs/fat or anything, you'd be looking at around 113 calories per ounce.

The one I'm looking at is 90% pure protein, I believe. So, I'm sure your estimate is pretty much right on, Cuthbert.

I'll calculate it to ~100 cals per oz, then whatever I add to it as well.

Thanks for the responses all.:)
