Caloric intake while cutting

Ok, I'm a little confused about the threads I've read on cutting. Say you have a guy who's 200lb. The threads I've read say that you're supposed to take bodyweight * 10 (or 12) to figure out the number of calories you're supposed to eat. I know this is just an approximation, I'm just using it to keep it simple.

So, you're supposed to have between 2000 and 2400 calories per day. Does that take into account physical activity? I mean, do you eat 2000-2400 calories per day. Or do you eat more based on how much you workout.

I do cardio 3 days a week and lift heavily 4 days and have 1 moderate day. So every day I expend about 500 calories a day on exercise, at least. 1500 to 1900 as a net intake of calories seems pretty low.

So which is it? Do I eat between 2000-2400 or 2500-2900, while cutting?

Blade from what I've read after you get the amount of lean body mass by subtracting you bodyfat % from body weigth say 200 at 15%bf is 200*.15 =30 so 200-30=170lbm and then times that by 10-12 say 170*10=1700 that is your basic cals you then times that by 1.6 or close a active lifestyle 1700*1.6=2720 then you subtract 500 cals for everypound a week you want to lose to make a deficit (for cutting) I am doing a cross between that and Crums diet and its looking good.
good luck

Active lifestyle?

Ok, that's the most simplified explanation I've heard so far :)

Now, what do most people do for active lifestyle. I mean, I'm a computer programmer by trade and don't really do a lot of moving around during the day. I'm at my desk most of the time, but since I exercise (lift 5 days a week and run 3 days week) should I be putting down 1.6 or something like 1.4?
