Cable v. Free Weights

I'm looking for some insight here, what do you guys think about the use of cable machines, such as the Crossbow by Weider, and and Bowflex, versus the use of free weights. What would be better or most useful?
 
Def free weights bro. in the gym the cables are good and are safer... use a mix of the 2.
 
I'm saying this because, lol, that's all I have is a crossbow machine, and that's what I'll have to use during the summer, unless the school's weightroom is open at a reasonable time, because I need to get my squats and deads up, and I can't do that with a crossbow. SoOoOoOoOo I'm in a bind unless I can find out if the weightroom will be open then this thread will be useless to me.
 
If your stuck at home, you can still do some decent things.

chins, dips between chairs, pushups, etc.

but, if i were u id pick up a summer gym pass. they only cost 89$ where i live. :)
