Buying a digital camera, need suggestions

Alright guys and gals,

I am finally going to delve into this century and buy a digital camera. I need one for work anyways, so the company will buy it and I get to write it off and shit. Problem is, I don't know what is good and what is crap out there. My budget is $500 or so, but I would prefer to stay in the 300-350 zone. So let me know what you guys would get if you were me.

What do you need to do with it? Just a point-and-shoot, or something higher up? Do you need a decent zoom? What type of pictures are you wanting to take? Here are some links for you.

I will check out these links. Basically, I want one for both work and personal use. At home I want to take family pics, vacation pics, the usual bullshit. At work, I need to take pics of parts and machines for website/brochure use.

Canon, Olympus, Nikon, Kodak all make good cameras..

Look for 3+ Mega Pixel minimum

Look for "Optical" Zoom of 3x Minimum vs just digital zoom

Don't go with the ultra tiny style cameras as they tend to have stability issues with
the electronics being too much crammed into a tiny space

I like Olympus for all around goodness like good lenses, interface,
build quality, features and correct color capture.

There are like a dozen of these threads here if you search for "camera" in title.
