buying a cow for the winter

for food, to put into my mouth and excrete out the back end.
thinking about doing this, friend has a small cattle ranch and sells them in 1/4s, 1/2s, and full cows.
I'd proly buy a fourth if i did it, not sure how i'd get it butchered.
i think the price is around $700
 
wait, you serious? you guys can buy livestock and fucking eat it? do you just walk it down to the local butcher and say "Hey, Mel, chop this bitch up and keep some flank for yourself"?

not that uncommon bor, people do this across the country.
even in cali i bet you could buy quartered livestock
it's a lot cheaper and you can get it butchered to your specifications.
i have a bigass restraunt style freezer to store it all.
i would never actually see the unbutchered meat, it would go from my friends farm directly to the butcher and then to me

fuck that. I'd pay extra to get some pics with ol Bessy. I'd also pay even more extra to make the first slice into her.

I once caught some fish off the coast of Mexico then brought it to a restaurant where they cooked it for us.

My butcher shop offers deals like that. When I was growing up we raised the cattle,100% grass fed no antibiotics, and had them slaughtered and cut to specs. Mixed 50/50 with venison..good stuff.

my pops did that when i was a lad, id see the cow grow at his buddy's place where he kept it and id pet it and it would have a name, eventually it would be on the dinner plate

our local butcher shop does that too. no way I'd get through it. I once bought 50lbs and didn't finish it all in a year, ended up tossing quite a bit.

You can't make a good hamburger patty with 100% venison(too lean), that's another reason for mixing it with beef.

The vast majority of my protein consumption is from powders. I still go through about three pounds of lean beef a week.

total weight is 1100 lbs i think.
i'd seal the packages with a sealer so it didn't get freezer burn
and lestat, why would you throw it out? why not just freeze it for later?

A 1/4 beef would be a good start. Prices around here are about the same. You'll pay about the same to have it butchered as say a deer. The guy you buy it from probably knows a good local butcher to help with that.

I really want to get a 1/2 a beefalo, gonna have to talk to Scots and KClycra to see if they want to split it.

When you're raised in a culture that raises livestock then you don't feel much. When I was a young child it bothered me until I realized how stupid cattle are....we raised them for a purpose.
 
shit we just bought a 1000 heffer from my fiancees uncle for 700bucks, sounds like your buying overpriced small cows dude.

although I guess our beef market is still recovering
 
I buy a full one every year from an amish community about 40 minutes north

It is frozen in chucks and they shrink wrap it for me..

This is only the 2nd year I've bought one but I know I have a fuckton left still from last year

well my boy was telling me that i can get it butchered in different ways.
i can decide how many lbs of ground i want, how big the loins can be, etc.
and like i said i would machine seal it so it didn't get burned

We buy a 1/2 about every 8 months or so. Works out great and the avg cost is way less. If I had a bigger freezer I'd do the whole one. Lots of goodness on them puppies! :)

I think you'd be better off with a steer than a cow.

if your friend does this all the tme and knows what he is doing, it will work out great. If he takes the cow directly off grass (not marijuana) it may be tough, needs to be fed out for awhile. If that is the program, just hit up the local butcher for the 1/4 or 1/2, may not be as cheap but it probably will be a better quality.

Btw, Bino, what's a small cattle ranch? Less than 200,000 acres? LOL
