Buttons that hold a collar down

Do you guys hold your collars down with those buttons when you're wearing them? I thought they were just to help keep it straight when not wearing it, but I see a decent amount of guys wearing it with the collar held down by the buttons.

it's a preferrence thing... there is a way you can rock it, preferrably with a tie. Personally I would never (assuming my shirt had them... which only a few of mine do)
