payment arrangement my ass........i would be paying it off for the next 20 years
when i went to court, i had no lawyer just myself
i told them i didnt want to pay monthly so the judge gave me the option to pay half right then so i pulled out my check book and wrote a 6 thousand dollar check
it really sucked ass too....so about a total of about 9 grand out of pocket for nothing.........fuck mexico
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA. Now seriously, what happens if he doesn't pay the fine? Supposing he owes the mexican government.
And I think you can ask for community service in lieu of a fine. Once you get to court it will be reduced however. Guy I know had 20,000 valium tablets 10,000 Hydrocodone tablets and he was stopped and busted by NYPD. After going to court he was sentenced with a $850 fine and 200 hours of community service.
I don't owe the mexican govt. I owe the US govt., that's why it's called US customs. i've considered all of your options. it seems that everybody and their brother thinks $73,000 is ludacris. i can plead poor, and do the community service, but if i do that, i might as well quit my job and work full-time for the US govt. for free. do you know long it'll take to work off $73,000? bankrupcy is an option, but i'm 24, and so far my credit is golden. if bankruptcy is declaired, i'll never buy a house,a car, or anything for that matter. if i go on payment plan and pay a certain amount monthly, i wonder what is the lowest amount to pay possible? do i have to prove my income and expenses? i'm not sure how this works. i did call rick collins from steroidlaw.com. no word from him yet. keep the ideas coming, please.

Bankrupty CAN'T hurt you that bad. Times have changed, and lots of people are going backrupt. It does go on your credit record. The next 7 years are tougher to get credit, but in 7 years, it must come off the record, and it isn't ever held against you again.
Also, from day #1 after you get relief, you can start rebuilding credit, so you might be not-so-bad-off before the 7 years are up.
Bro, in community service, you don't have to work off the amount of money you are fined. You just do a set number of hours.
Just go to court, it will not be that bad. Trust me. The judge will lower your fine. If not, then people would just be back out doing illegal things to make the money to pay them.
It's going to be ok. Just make sure you follow the probation guidelines so your record will be sealed and not publically available.

You are partially correct. There are virtually no consequenses for filing BK. You can purchase a home, a car and begin receiving credit cards 1 day out of a chapter 7. You can have it removed from your report after 7 years. The reason people did not file in the past was mainly due to the stigma attached to BK. Now people don't give a shit what others think and are more apt to do what ever it takes to get ahead.
