My g/f wants to start a small business one day. The problem is she hates school. She thought about taking some calsses but changed her mind. Can she start a business without a degree in business? I think that she going to go to hair school and open that kind of business. This has been a big dream of her's for a long time. I really think that school will help her a lot.

I don't know if you are familiar with the TV show "The Apprentice" with Donald Trump and his many wannabe proteges, but this season is "Book Smarts" vs. "Street Smarts"

The kids with book smarts have MBA's and law degrees, the kids with street smarts have only high school diplomas.

There was a funny twist in the first episode when Donald announced that he hadn't realized it until after he picked the candidates, but the kids with only high school diplomas had 3 times the income of the kids with MBA's etc.!

now, it wasn't mentioned on the show, but obviously one could make the case that the kids with no higher education have anywhere from a 4 to 7 year headstart on the kids who got higher degrees.

Anyway the long and the short of it is YES! you can start a business without college. read read read, find mentors, etc. there is a wealth of free information online.

if she doesn't like reading that may be another problem :)

Rather than college, many businesses or professions will require a certificate of trade. This can be anything from a beautician to a dance instructor. The major concern is that they are an expert in their field and have taken the time to research and study in order to succeed.

If she gets in the position of being able to rent booth space....she'll smile all the way to the bank.

Good luck!
