i find there is something strangely intriguing in watching human pain and suffering.heatherrae said:

funny thing. I started out pre-med and I could cut up any animal or human that is dead already -- no problem. I would even dissect with one hand and eat a pop tart with the other. There was no pain. I couldn't hurt them. So, it didn't affect me. However, I witnessed a really bad car accident once where people were ejected from the cars. One was dead immediately, but two of the guys were really messed up and suffering. They died later at the hospital. One walked away with minor injuries. Anyway, seeing that suffering literally made me sick to my stomach and I decided that day not to go to med school.*The_West* said:

i guess you either have the stomach for it or you dont. deads dont bother me-they're dead. it can be hard to see another human being in such a terrible state, but you have a job to do, you cant let it affect you or cloud your judgement. the first time you see someone 'fubar bundy' its hard, but you steel yourself and get on with it.heatherrae said:

This guy I saw had been thrown out of the car and his legs were twisted 180 degrees the wrong way (his rear end was in the front!) and blood was coming out of his ears and mouth. Still he was conscious and trying to crawl. I was trying to get him to be still.*The_West* said:
Another had a serious head injury, and I couldn't get near him. He was combative and swinging at me.
I helped the guy crawling as much as I could to stay calm and held his hand until the ambulance got there.
UGH.
It was terrible, partly because I couldn't do anything but comfort him. He died anyway.
