Well, over 2 weekends.

Just stopping by to share some pics for people like Jack_Schitt, Gonelifting, Stiletto and other do-it-yourselfers.

The hard part wasn't building it, the hard part was building it so that it could easily be taken apart and put back together.

I built this crap as I went along, no plans and no sketches. I was worried, but rather surprised that it came out decently.

Then, even more impressive:)

Thank you.

Now the EXTREMELY hard part comes for me.....picking out a comforter that matches the room.

lol, I am not the best at that stuff. I will have my GF or a female do that for me.
:)

not bad.

you should see the "bar" my roommate built using the same method...no plans, no sketches...looks like shit.

all you need now is a lady (one that doesn't need a foot pump) to try it out...

lol, it's a little early in the morning to be doing stand-up, Rodney Dangerfield.

I think Lowes hates seeing me coming because half the time it's to return a buggy full of items that I ended up not needing since I approach jobs in this manner.

It's also funny to see projects I started out on compared to projects I did recently. The right tools can make a huge difference in quality and looks. I never had those nice things starting out.

very nice work!

what kind of wood? the finished product looks like oak with a dark stain but it looked different before staining.

I have a platform bed and I have to say that I wish i could use the underneath part for storage. It's kind of a space waster.

but, so are you.

Nice!

Stilleto, I have drawers under my platform bed for storage. I had my King size platform built locally, but they installed such small drawers that they're almost unusable. Idiots! Nothing like building it yourself.

Mine isn't anywhere near the strength that thing is. Mine might be sagging in the left and right sides where there's no support. There's only ONE support in the center of the KING SIZE bed! wtf? They used .5 or 3/4 plywood on edge, that's it.

I agree aap, tools make a huge difference. That's why I like getting quality tools for the job. It makes it a pleasure to work on projects.

Good stuff. Thanks for the pics!

More pics of the house you're building!

For a king size, i'd use supports along both edges of course, plus down the center going vertically and horizontally and I'd use those supports to be the guides and stops for 2 sets of drawers on either side of the bed.

Damn you're good. It's red oak with 2 applications of red mahogany stain.

I may add drawers later, but right now I just wanted to get it done. I found a mattress for cheap and it was just laying in my living room floor, therefore time was a factor.

I will have pics next week of phase 2 of my kitchen remodel. I need to finish it up this coming weekend.

Nice. :)
The other way to use it as storage might be to be able to move the mattress off and raise the platform. it would allow you to store infrequently used items in there like luggage or out of season clothes.

but, it's really nice. the stain looks good. comfortors are fun to buy. :)

Show off!

I was going to make some smart ass comment and call you gay or something, but that actually looks pretty cool. If only I knew how to build stuff. Shit I can't even make a decent fort out of the couch cushoins without the dog getting past my security and destroying it. Little bastard.

Nice job!

Neutrals are always safe, accents in color. :)

Well, certainly not neutral, but this comforter I found last night matches everything from the paintings on the wall to the border trim at the top of the wall.

Plus I think it looks pimp.

Did you fuck your girlfriend on it yet?

I know it looked like I was ignoring your posts on this thread yesterday

and it's because I was!

I think you need to take a long weekend trip over to Old Strubridge Village in Mass. U would LOVE it there. You'd also get more great ideas for your woodoworking hobby!

Nice work dude. Looks awesome...believe it or not, I was thinking about that very same thing a few years back but didn't have the time to do it, so I just bought the metal bed frame with casters :(.

Where the hell is GL and our home improvement forum?
