Building a Deck..

Pamela

I have a small deck right out side my living room window.
And I have 6x6's holding up a lg. deck high up on the side of the house.

But I want to build onto the small deck.. There's a AC unit that is in the middle of the side of the house.

So I need to step up the new one that I want to build onto.

Any suggestions?

Pam are you planning on doing the work yourself? I think the easiest way to solve this would be to buy one of those do it yourself books from Home Depot or some other similar building supply retailer. They are aimed at the handy novice and walk you through the whole thing A to Z.

I agree thatway you could do the layout youreslf. I have a good book on decks by better homes and gardens i think i picked it up at a sears hardware location.

...or do a search at www.thisoldhouse.com

Velvett turned me on to that site a while back when i needed to do some work on my kitchen floor, great resource.

I believe places like Home Depot/Lowes have CAD programs that can taylor make a deck for you and print up the prints as well as a full bill of materials.
