Bruised lower back

My workout partner actually has bruises on his lower back from the gym. ( keep tellin him to take it easy on his girlfriend.hehehehe) Anyone ever see this before or get one? Could it be from Deads? We are pretty hard core and he's in actually good enough shape to compete in a BB comp; kinda freaky though. Looks like someone smacked him in the back with a 2 X 4. He says it only bothers him when he sleeps. Should he work through it if he's feelin up to it or take it easy on Deads and rows?

well the first word of advice should be to see a doctor... someone qualified enough to give your friend a first hand diagnosis - no one over the internet can tell the extent of his injuries.

and i would say to take it easy on back day, it's possible that there's some bruising on the interverterbral disks

again, i don't know for sure, see a doctor
