Broke my stupid hand

What a pain in the ass, and of course it had to be the right one. Surgery is this Friday and I may take the drugs if they offer them this time. When I went into the ER Sunday I turned them down. Doc told me it could be a year until I worked out and could lift heavy. I asked him what heavy meant, and he shrugged and said "benching 150 lbs or so."

Damnit.

Radius, ulna, and a metacarpal. I need surgery on the ulna. It broke so bad it's 3mm away from the rest of itself. It cut a blood vessel and my hand and forearm are one big hematoma. It happened when my friends and I decided to help some old hick whose battery died and none of us had cables. We pushed his truck and he went to pop the clutch when nobody was ready. My hand just folded over on itself as I was pushing full force. My friend busted his lip on the tailgate when the fucker stopped short too. Glad my insurance kicked in this month.

shit bro, sorry to hear that. sucks that you were helping some dude in the process too...

Recover, keep the diet super clean, hit legs, find other avenues of stress relief.

Yikes. Get well, bro. Push ups for you for the next little while.

He told me cycling could even be bad for a while because of the pressure, angles, etc. It sucks, but it's not like paying some attention to my heart would be a bad thing after I treated myself so bad for a while. I kinda want to see about getting the hernia fixed right now too because if I'm on pain pills for this and then something later, I don't want it to become an issue. Been there, done that, can't go there again.

You should save up and go all out (ie six million dollar man) on the repairs.

what an idiot! He obviously doesn't know the first thing about popping the clutch. Sorry bro. That sucks ass. You workin tomorrow?

insurance bro. They'd cut him down to the half million dollar man.

Yeah, working every day until Friday. I guess they call me the day before to let me know when I'm going in. Really helpful when I'm trying to get a ride there and home lined up during friends' normal work hours. I'll probably just walk home from the hospital. It's only a couple of miles away from my house and it's supposed to be nice Friday.

Your hand was probably stupid before you broke it... the breaking it part is just really inconvenient.

best of luck to you bro

I actually think there were fractures before this happened. I clocked a guy a few years ago and it just seemed off since. I just didn't have insurance and it seemed good enough.

And yeah my hand is dumb. It's been the only one stupid enough to keep banging me.

Sorry to hear that.

Both bone forearm fractures are ugly.

But look on the bright side, they might put my plates and screws in you! Woot!

that sucks. a year is the worst case scenario though I'm sure. I had a really gnarly break in my wrist about 5 years ago, had pins and all that shit. I was at 90% in probably 5 months

Fuck yeah. Does anyone know the weight difference of equal sized pieces titanium and bone? I got more titanium below my right knee the tib and fib.

you worked out?

The worst part will be when the cast comes off and you're stiff for months after.

They're developing modular casts now... remove sections as the healing process goes on to increase mobility.

Bone (mineral) density is around 1.5g/cm^3, titanium is 4.5g/cm^3. 3x heavier per unit volume. "Bone density" is a tough one as bones are a composite of the surrounding bone mineral and spongy matrix core (significantly less dense). With bone having nearly a 5th the elastic modulus of titanium, you could conceivably make the cross section a 5th the size of the original bone and maintain similar strength characteristics (backhand calcs).

He said I'll never really have a cast. I guess I'll have a splint with an air cast for the first week and then a couple of different splint/ wrap setups for the next month plus.

Plunky, I will be having screws and plates in my ulna. The other fractures didn't seem to concern him.

Stero, lefty wiping sucks.

Sorry to hear bro, breaking bones sucks...my wrists is still destroyed...had surgery 2 years ago and its not the same...they had to take bone off my pelvis to fill the gap in my wrist...fucking painful

i have a huge titanium plate in the side of my wrist also...gay as fuck...never got my strength back

get a cab, youre not walking for a few hrs after if theyre puttin you under
and..claim it on the old dudes car insurance and get paid for down time while you're at it even tho the dude probably only has like a 20/40 policy

I don't even have a cast. Just something covering the incision and a wrapping. The titanium is supposed to work as a splint from the inside. Even the remaining bone on the top and bottom of tib and fib were drilled out ? And has the rods going all the way to the top and bottom inside the remaining bone

dude...you never let me know when surgery was today...asshole
I bet you called ceo and told him too

douchebaggery

hope it went well today regardless

I flew out to give him a ride.

I was amused however that he thought he was walking home after general

I would have if they let me. This is really painful, I'm surprised at how much it hurts and how it just keeps going. I know it'll only get better, but damn. They gave me 5mg percs and they work ok, but I'm itchy as hell. O(nly took 1 so far.

I pop em in half and they seem to numb pain just as well (and you can milk em longer)

And yeah, I can take like 2-3 or something and be fine.

You workin on that box?

mine say 5/325mg? not sure what that means. i take like 4 and it barely takes the pain away. smoke a joint and it messes up my head at least. thinking bout adding some rum with the pills to up the effect of them

mine says 40 hydrocodone 5mg tab.

this wouldn't kill a headache. i'm going to bring these with me when i do my follow-up and turn them in to be disposed of and ask for something stronger if this keeps up. i don't want him to think i'm some pill head wanting more drugs, but this thing feels like it's on fire with a pulse.

yeah man i just shattered my tibia and fibula and had titanium rods inserted inside both bones. painkiller dont do dick. wish i could stay in the hospital longer on the fentanyl drip

shit, mine says oxycodone too. i think i had hydro in mt head from everyone here joking about hydros

if its in a soft cast can you ice it? might help with the throbbing pulse feeling (heh)

wow dude, sorry :( I wish you woulda broke it slapping someone :) 150 pounds...yea right, your doc probably has no idea how heavy 150 vs. 250 is. Hit up a sports doc if you can.

yep being an athlete, not even competitive, i went to a sports surgeon. Well... they are also world class surgeons in Banff. All the olympic athletes from canada mostly reside/train here as well as athletes from all over the world. the surgeon sent me to physio where alot of the athletes go too. i have no cast for shattering my leg, and my physio includes full strength training, athletic testing, and free gym passes, massages. i feel like im on a major sports team or some shit. i got hooked up

i used to enjoy a couple lortab or percs every once in a while. after being on them the last 2 days i just feel septic. just ice and IB today and i feel so much better. inflammation is way down, now the only pain is at the fractures.
