Boxing and me

So I have been curious about boxing for a long time. It seemed like the martial art I want. I am curious though. Before I went to the gym any I was around 145lbs and I am 5'9". You could say that was pretty small. Now I am around 160-165. I went from benching 150 max to 250. Curling max like 70 to 110. Squatting from like 145 to like 220. So being im a small guy would boxing be for me? Based on my body type of course. I just want to be in a MA that if I see the average person I know I'll be able to kick his ass. It isnt for anyone else but myself dont get me wrong. I hate seeing a guy and "thinking" I can beat him up because I am twice as strong. I want to know.

I don't think boxing is martial art, muy thai or kick boxing is a martial art.

I have just started martial arts and boxing training, I love it.

I am a bit unsure about your motivation, about being stronger and being able to beat people up.

Strength often has very little to do with fighting skills.

If you take on a martial art or boxing, there is a certain level of integrity and honour that I think you need to have as you could potentially hurt people.

Strength is a direct thing when it comes to MA. For example. Lets say there is a clone of me. One benches 150 and was back before I went to the gym. And then theres me. And we both have the same boxing skill. You know who'll win? The stronger me. I'd destroy my old self with like 2 punches. Not to mention it makes your body tougher in itself. And when I say beat people up its for myself only. I dont mean I am going to go fighting everyone. In a matter of fact I dont even LIKE fighting.

I disagree. Boxing is an art in itself. Boxing is graceful and if violence could be beautiful, boxing would be it. It all depends on you man. If you wanna box do so. In striking arts strength isn't such a big part of it. Endurance, skill, and mental toughness is what you have to have. Oh and you are gonna get hit a lot. If you can deal with that then go for it. You won't know if you are cut out for boxing until you try it.

Boxing is not a martial art in the conventional sense nor has boxing ever said it was anything more than a sport. however as the definition of a martial art is an "Art of War" not an Art of beating some dude up or Art of punching. Art of War. A fighting style that has been used and proven usefull in a combat scenario is my opinion of "martial Art's" but todays definition is changing and that being said. It could go both ways.

Watch fight club...kick your own ass...Then think...Do I wanna be better at kicking my own ass? Martial art's is more about keeping a clear mind. You are 3x faster reacting than you are acting. Hense the flaw in thinking the first guy to swing get's the prize.

First guy to swing is the first guy to have his arm out straight to risk getting his @#$T torn off or broken. boxing WILL get that anger out of you at the end of the day and possibly give you a better feeling of self esteem and confidence.

Thanks for the words guys. I dont get how you guys can say strength doesnt have much to do with it. If I was to hit someone around my weight with a full contact blow I would knock them on their ass. Back then before I worked out it wouldnt of been close. That isnt a big difference?

boxing a great sport to learn, less bullshit involved than some traditional martial arts

getting yourself bigger and stronger will help to a point so you wont get thrown around so easy by bigger guys but you don't need hit that hard to floor most people, just land cleanly before they do and boxing will certainly make you better at that

at 250 lbs I don't worry too much about punching power...at 200lbs I didn't either..Striking accuracy will win every time. If you google search how to calculate force..You will see that velocity has far more to do with impact force than weight. Think of the big muscle guy has the torque to push through and move the body...that's about it...the most painfull punches I ever had with Bloody knuckles was a really skinny guy with fast hands..

he hurt like HELLL...I still won because my bones are more dense (more specifically my head is more dense I really should have cried uncle but I suck at that) In the end when he quite I cracked 3 of my knuckles and he broke 2 of his. Sarge was pissed. There has to be a BIG difference in weight for punching power to change that much..30-40 lbs. You can't maintain that kind of increase in size and if you did chances are the muscle would interfere with your natural mechanical function when it came to punching and moving.

I am taking boxing and gracie jiu-jitsu. i have a 2nd degree bb in tae kwon do. Overall, i would prefer to "roll" (jiu-jitsu) with you any day baby!!! Lots of close contact, the ideal is to not give your opponent any space! hahahaha
