Boston 2004 Events... Planning now...

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman

Art posted some ideas for what the events would be for the Boston show in February. Lord willing I will have a career beginning and be able to train properly as well as able to afford the trip.

The planning process starts now...:

Qualify:
1) Power Stairs (possibly as part of a medley, maybe with a yoke and tire first)

2) Heavy FW for 200' (375# each hand for pros -morning qualifier)

3) A Throwing event for height. (keg or 56# - "one vision" approach)

Finals:
4) Stones (Standard set up, 6 stones, 270-420, 4'-6' platforms)

5) The return of the Conan's Wheel

6) Hercules Hold (EXTREMELY heavy, probably 500-600 in each hand)

Sounds 'exciting' huh?

louden_swain: No plans to build anything at all. Career, moving, money, and space will determine a lot.

Zander1983: I'll probably have a plan up within the week.

jasonaa97: The heavy ams can expect 300-325 farmers, stones VERY close if not the same, 400-500 pound hercules hold, 750 Conan's Wheel, 56 for height, and a puker medley.

LOL... glad I'm not a heavy!

Doesn't look like enough events to test overall strength. The qualifier is better than the final. I hate the fact that most of the events don't test max lowerbody strength.

im so psyched. i cannot wait and thats gonna make it that much better if you enter. i think we're bout to buy a kettlebell. i'm so happy he dropped overhead for a throw. i kinda like that kettlebell . you think it will be 56lb for us lightweights too. if so ill have to eat my wheaties;)

JESUS those are some rediculous weights...especially the hercules hold

I can't fathom that type of weight.

Clint do you think it is gonna be more like the best guy there gets only 20 seconds and the rest get under that? or do you think there will be long times like over a minute? that would be insane

i know u were talkin to clint but the way art talked bout the weights on another board i dont think there will be ppl gettin over a minute. he said he wanted it similar to the level of difficulty as nationals was and they were holdin two ford escapes on ramps

damn thats crazy

i know man i have no idea...I posted it then it got moved...so I deleted it in the diet board and reposted here and it got deleted.

It has to do with training since swain is such a vital part to the training board. and its also something people can relate to here

oh well what can you do

sorry for hijacking your thread clint lol

Power stairs in a medley!?!?!?:mix:definite puker! The HEAVY hercules hold sounds like lots of fun ..until your arms are ripped from your body :) Sounds like its going to be a really good contest

Either I know EXACTLY who you are or you just have no clue about strength and how relative it is to the events above.

An 800+ super yoke takes TONS of lower body strength to pick up and so does an 800 pound tire and a 500 pound power stairs implement (that is what I expect).

Have you ever tried to pick up anything heavier than 300 on farmers??? He is using 375 EACH HAND for 200'...and that isn't testing lower body strength?

Ever throw a 56# for height???

If you want to test non-moving lower body strenth...enter a powerlifting meet...and stay away from strongman.

WOW! Have you ever even done strongman? If you tried some of the events you would see that it's not what you think. It really does take alot out of your lower body.

I think that these might change in the future...

Art was a Highland Games World Class Athlete too...

Dude calm down. If you realise I said MAX lowerbody strength. Of course tons of events you need a strong lowerbody for but you don't need the strongest one. Unless the yoke is really heavy(which it barely ever is) then the guy with the strongest legs won't win for sure. The guy with the most indurance and speed has a better chance. Max squat is good but they don't have it often. Leg press is great for testing lowerbody strength but they barely ever have it anymore. Powerstairs is more back. Think about it. 56 is more technique and explosiveness.

dood.......... you didnt answer the question........ have you ever done strongman events before??

yes........... or .......... no???

and by the way at the Bluegrass strongman comp.. the 1st event was the viking press........ legs are just as important as triceps on this one if you have the right technique.

then conans wheel......... my legs always hurt so bad from doing this. sure its for distance but let me tell you something, all the endurance in the world will not help you out if you dont have the strength to hold the thing up.

im not going to describe but 1 more............ the yoke.......... if it was all about endurance the weights would be lighter......... and you said that the weights are hardley heavy anymore..... well what do you call 550lbs on my back???? a stroll in the park.. heavy's had to do 650lbs........... and at nashville, heavies had to do 700lbs.......... and these are just regional contest not even nationals........ and amature at that.

dood.......... get a clue.

X

Yeah...I have a pretty good idea who you are now :lmao:

Like I have said before...if you want to test non-moving leg strength...go to powerlifting.

X you right on about this one.

Almost all the event are based on max lower body drive and explosive power.

The vikings, that is why I got my ass handed to me, no leg drive

Conan's wheel: Dood can you front squat 400lbs and walk with it

I won't even touch the medley' arggg duck walk

Dood your concept of max strength is just gym lifts, you need to remember we are not in a gym buddy.

but I wold like to know if you have ever competed in Strongman or if you are just an idiot

theres a difference between a "strong man" and a "strongman"

a "strong man" is someone who is exactly that...a man who is strong

a "strongman" is an ATHLETE, a combination of speed, strength, and endurance. The best strongmen are the ones who have all of those.

do you happen to know anything about the boston contest? everything there is really heavy. its not a contest for speed. its known for bein one of the heaviest contests. 56# is alot of weight to toss in the air. if it was all technique dont you think they would throw it higher than 18ft. anyways, i'm not an expert at this but i think you should be in powerlifting if your not already.
