bored, tired, and my back is stiff

waaah waaah waaah.

started a new job yesterday, going through lots of busywork training. the person that is doing it all for me is late today, so I'm sitting here wishing my chair had better lumbar support.

supposedly I start real work tomorrow.

I'm too tired (kept funny hours while off work at home) to think of anything funny, maybe I'll go get some coffee.

AA - I work at a place that does... stuff... for pharmaceutical companies. Mostly from what I can tell it seems to be documentation stuff for drugs that are awaiting approval.
I just do the computer side of things - I will be doing some intranet modfications and game programming starting tomorrow.

as for staring at hot chicks, there are a few of them here, but I have a GF that I'm happy with and the last thing I need to do is fuck that and my new job up. :)

The worst thing about new jobs is definitely the people. I don't like people. I wish I could work in an office staffed entirely by cats.

When I started working here I asked if I could bring in my own computer since new computers frighten me. They said that was fine and that they'd install all of the accounting software etc. I brought it in and was working VERY hard but they got all pissy and said "that's not a computer, that's lite-brite".

Raina, this post was just what I needed. I thought of you when I saw some ferrett attack commercial on tv. I wondered if they really made those strange sounds as they attacked your tongue on the way to the emergency room.

and I totally agree, people suck - although so far all of the people here are really nice. and they pay me. which I find refreshing.
I personally don't like cats - I'd rather an office of labs.

and I hear you on the computer bit - but I did it with an Etch-a-Sketch. those are way easier to reboot than a lite brite.

my computer here has an icky mouse and an icky keyboard and i've spent about an hour now trying to get this chair not to kill my back, all to no avail... I think it might be this computer tray thingy (technical term).

also, this computer isn't a dual processor, so while it is a fairly fast processor, it still lags when I open up lots of shit (more technical jargon)

word up.

I do get to dress nicely everyday... and then sweat it all up.

Words of Wisdom, oh Lumbar Challenged one...

Remove the mouseball and toss is away as far as you can.
You will get a new one shortly.

Take all the keys off the keyboard and put them back in the wrong places.
You will get a new one shortly.

Stand up in your chair and jump up and down roughly until the suspension breaks.
You will get a new one shortly.

Repeatedly jam your knees into the tray thingy until it, or your knees, break.
You will get a new one shortly.

Switch from polyester material to cotton.
Much cooler

Did you personalize your parking space like I told ya ?

I'm quite allergic to cats. They make me wheeze and they make my eyes water. I think that the wheezing makes me sound kind of sexy though and the watery eyes make me look more pathetic-- and most people won't yell at me when I'm crying. Plus the allergies would add a challenge to my job and we all know that it's important to be challenged.

Oh, and ferrets don't really make noise. The hiss sometimes when they wrestle with each other (they just roll around on the floor though-- no refs or costumes or anything). Sometimes when they're excited they leap around and make little chittering noise....who doesn't!?

They always try to climb around in the dishwasher when it's open and a while back I heard a horrid scream from the kitchen. Sigma was somehow pinned in the dishwasher and was stuck. It was scary....but he didn't learn. He's not too quick so I have hired a tutor for him. He just can't seem to learn to read.

yeah, I might actually think about car pooling with this guy and definitely look into going to his gym in the mornings.

as for my own stapler - hell yes.
and a staple remover too.

they gave me some test earlier this morning and I "finished it faster than anyone to date"
hot damn - now we will see if any part of it is right.

Fuckin' A!! Now that's what I call a perk!! Did you admit to them that you already had experience with injectables?

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

shit, I guess I did word that all wrong.

no, so far no drugs. and most of the ones that I get to read about are already ones I knew about from patent research days.

Seriously, It's cool that things are going better for you.
I don't think I could have taken another poor poor Scrappy post.

What kind of test was it? Urine or Toenail clipping ?

I'm a very lucky person - getting to do cool stuff in a secure, laid back atmosphere, making good money. I probably won't get to post on here as much, although it is hard to tell so far.
I'm glad I could get one of my friends that were laid off a job here as well - I wish I could get another one - so many people laid off these days.

as for the test - it was a programmer exercise or sorts (not really, more Word macros than anything). apparently I did it quickly - it wasn't anything hard at all and I think my idea of deadlines is stricter than many here.

I gotta believe they'll find you a better chair if you mention you're gettin pain from this one.
They've spent way too much time and money attracting, finding, landing you to risk pissing you off already.
There's a lot of programmers that never show up for the second day, and they know that.

The last position I had in this company put me at a desk made by putting two standard 6' formica tables in an L shape. I had a workstation with two screens (I love it!) and so the screens had to go one on the left desk, and one on the right desk, and the keyboard over the crack in the middle. Very hoakey. pluss my knees were banging into the table legs. I mentioned it to my boss, and he told me to contact the ergonomics dept.
There's actually a dept around here for that.
They find elevator chairs to accomodate midgets, brail printers for the blind, etc.
They gave me a lot of bs about they were out of the right kind of desk..blah,blah
Then I mentioned, (all very innocent like) since I was in pain, should I fill out an OSHA report?
I had a new desk the next day.

lol - yeah, I put in a request for a new keyboard and a trackball - but the kind of trackball I like doesn't seem to be made anymore, so I'm just going to bring in one from home that I have. they are ordering the keyboard.
I wasn't in my chair much yesterday, so today is the first amount of real time I have spent in it.
I might look online at the catalog from which they buy the office/computer supplies here to see if they have a lower lumbar support thing (although what I *want* is an Aeron :)).

Nice chair for your back...

LOL at the barcalounger.

as for what is up with the Aeron seat - that thing is all mesh and totally configurable. pretty much all tech start up had them during the boom - you can get them from $600-1K (Stanford Law has them in all of their classrooms).

and Y_Lifter - do you mean that as an insult? being a Snaab, I hate Volvo.

Yes, or a joke. I know Volvo and Snaab owners have a big feud.
And I know you are a Snaab.

my back is doing much better now.
they brought me my new keyboard and I'm just using this mouse as it is for now, it isn't so bad.
I repositioned some shit and now it feels pretty darn nifty.
now I just need my animation assignment to be officially declared and I'm good.
rock on.
