Bodybuilders and Superheroes

New member
Hey guys

I am busy writing an article for my website on Body Builders and Superheroes. A lot of the guys who I know that train and are conscious of their physique have all got some sort of Superhero tattooed to their body or hanging around their neck.

If you guys have any suggestions as to why Bodybuilders love superheroes so much please post some quotes in this topic so that I may include it in my article.

The only professional bodybuilder I can think of who has a superhero “fetish” is Lee Priest with this Superman obsession heheh. If you guys are aware of any more please let me know

Much appreciated

I think a lot of bodybuilders have tattoo's of superheros as thats how they see themselves...that a muscular physique makes them a hero.
Some people get into bodybuilding for the wrong reasons, ie, to help with giant egos, as opposed to those of us that get into it for the love of the iron

Well said.

Too many fall into the realm of narcissism.

could be what need size said.............. but it could be my opinion as well. i grew up reading comic books. x-men, spiderman, daredevil.......... all the great marvel line. and i loved thier physiques.........i thought they looked incredible. so i started working out. (becuase of them and Arnold.........lol). but i grew up and now i lift for myself. but i still love comic books, and more importantly i love dragonballz. but i dont have any hero symbols tattooed on me. or medalions........... becuase im not trying to make myself superman, im not him or any other hero. im me. so i still like the hero's, but im trying to be my own hero.

My take on it... there's very little relation.

Superheros are fictional characters generally gifted with their physiques that choose to use it for the good of mankind.

True bodybuilders (generally) are goal oriented artists with an iron will to challenge themselves and succeed at any cost in building their ultimate work of art, their body.

Guys who visualize themselves as superheros are living a 365-day halloween. They need help.

I think the superman tatoos, etc. are more symbolic. It's part of visualization, mental strength, and motivation. Something that moved you as a kid -- focusing that into your efforts and intensity.

I'm with Exodus, comic books are the shiznit, I love readin my old Marvels and I've bought them from time-to-time on ebay :D and I think arnold's movies are probably what got me into lifting when I was a kid.

I just like the idea of superheros flying around and stopping evil, I've never actually really connected superheros to lifting.

Hmm, but here's a thought I just had: when you open a comic book and every character is huge, it's sort of cool, you wonder why everyone in the real world doesn't look like this, and then if you're a huge dude or chick and you actually are that size, you sort of connect with it ... I dunno, that's probably far off, as I said, I just dig the art/stories, it's great light reading ;)

Bodybuilders ARE life-size superheros. I think Marvel has inspired way more lifters than Muscle & Fitness...:)
